SUMMARY

This is a two-slide PowerPoint presentation containing data on tea production in India and the traditional tea producing states. From the tea producing states in India, the most prominent ones are Assam, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and the Nilgiris. Assam is the only place, besides China, that can pride itself on Camellia assamica—the native tea plant. Of the various kinds available, Darjeeling tea is the most popular today. It may be on the expensive side, but that does not stop people from consuming it. Given the quality and extraordinary flavour of Indian teas, there is no doubt that “chai” is catching up in the Western world too. Also, given the antioxidant benefits of tea, an increasing number of Indians and non-Indians are making it a part of their daily regime.
