Expat's Experience of a Sunrise in Ajijic, Mexico

Expat's Experience of a Sunrise in Ajijic, Mexicchillibreeze writerSylvia Perkins

It was so quiet early this morning. No more fireworks for a change. "Las Manitas" is faintly heard from a nearby house--a lovely song that Mexicans serenade their loved ones with on birthdays or anniversaries. It is quiet not only because it is early but because there are no more fireworks. The festivals honoring San Andres, patron saint of the village, and Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron of Mexico, have just ended. Before that were the processions throughout the month of October for Our Lady of the Rosary followed by parades of all the local schools for the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.

Expat and Travel eBooksFrom my balcony I just had the most beautiful spiritual experience. I was inside and just before 7 AM I pulled the curtain aside to see a beautiful sight. A glorious sunrise was making its way up from behind the tall church steeple two blocks away. As it grew and slowly filled the eastern sky, a flock of birds flew round and round that steeple as in a dance or ballet in time with the symphonic music I was listening to inside. They actually flew that way for a full five minutes or maybe more before landing right there on the top of the steeple just as the music ended! Really! What a choreographer God is!

My eyes kept filling with tears as I recalled the psalms praising him and thanking him for this gift. And for our time in Mexico coming to an end today as we leave for the states at noon.
