As the name suggests, the place resembles a picturesque rural home courtyard. It is located on the outskirts of Bangalore, few kilometers down the Kanakpura main road. Angana has the ambience of an ancient abode that reminds one of their grandma’s house in the village. Every little thing associated with the place has the power to captivate one with its simplicity, magnificence and charm. Angana is a small hotel with lush green gardens on all its sides. It provides a perfect backdrop to unwind, relax and spend some quality time with near and dear ones.
About our trip:
Front view of Angana
Angana intrigued us from the minute we arrived. In front of us was a gigantic gate on which we had to knock for an entry. It is not open to the public and the gates opened only for guests who have obtained their bookings through authorized agents. Once we entered we were transported to a different era all together. Time seemed to have come to a standstill and we found ourselves walking towards a small brown-roofed open-courtyard hotel.
Being an avid admirer of artifacts we found ourselves in for a wonderful experience. The entire hotel was filled with intricate paintings from the mythological era along with bronze statues and an array of beautiful antique pieces including a map of the world as perceived by the Englishmen. Angana appeared simple with a touch of modern comforts, which made it a perfect blend to wash away all our blues. The one thing we enjoyed most in Angana was the room they provided us for our stay. It had mattresses spread on the floor along with an accountants table as the only piece of furniture around us. A mirror adorned the wall along with a few more spectacular paintings. The power supply in the room was rustic, with a small fan, a few light bulbs and huge black switches. In spite of such minimal luxuries we never felt anything missing. The room felt comfortable in the truest sense.
Step-well style swimming pool at Angana
Another amazing spot in Angana was the “Kalyani” or the step-well style swimming pool. It was a rare experience to slowly get into the pool and unwind. We also warmed up ourselves with a quick game of badminton. There are a few outdoor games options along with some indoor ones. We then decided to do something adventurous. Angana had a clock-tower replica built in its backyard. We decided to race to get to the top. It was great fun and the view at the top was more than just an award for reaching first. We could see grasslands, farms, coconut plantations and clear blue sky all together at once. It resembled a perfect scenic painting definitely worth a see.

Being die hard foodies we loved the food at Angana. The meals were simple, tasty and felt like home-cooked food with a twist of variety. The staff at Angana treated us just like their personal guests so we could walk in to the dining area and ask for anything we fancied. They came up with the wildest options in no time and served it hot to us. It was wonderfully relaxing in the open sit-out, munching hot “pakoras” with tea and watching the day slowly turn into night with stars filling up the sky.
Front side garden at Angana
After a long time we realized how many hours a day has, as time at Angana seemed to be on our side rather than we trying to run behind it as we normally did while in the city. The experience was wholesome, which left behind a soothing sense to calm down our nerves as we inched slowly towards our hectic urban lifestyle.
Our stay at Angana is still fresh in our minds and reminds us that there is a place which we can gladly call home away from home!
