KGudi Wilderness Camp in BR Hills is a Great
Jungle Retreat

In this article the writer describes about KGudi wilderness camp in BR hillschillibreeze writerKoeyli Jaluka

Virgin deciduous forests, trekking trails through the jungle and cold, crisp mountain air all add up to only one image in my mind - KGudi Wilderness Camp in BR Hills. Hardly 225 kilometers from Bangalore, this haven is a retreat for those who love the feel of the forest, and want to do nothing but explore rampant greenery and wildlife. The place owned by Jungle Lodges and Resorts, boasts of almost 8 tents and 3 log-huts to house visitors. However, if a vacation means five-star luxury and AC cottages to you, this is definitely not where you want to go. Simple, sufficient and scenic is how I would describe the place.

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep….” Robert Frost could well have been describing the forests where the notorious Veerappan once held for. They are splashed with myriad shades of green. Beautiful birds with poetic names awake you in the morning. On a jeep safari you are likely to see herds of spotted deer, samba, barking deer, elephants, wild dogs and sloth bear. If you are immensely lucky, you may just spot a lurking leopard too. Safari trips are conducted every morning at daybreak and every evening at about dusk. At night, a campfire is lit and dinner is served under a thatched roof.

Almost 20 kilometers into the deciduous forests lie a belt of evergreen trees, forming a canopy so thick that you can barely feel the sun. Natural steps lead you down to a stream, which you can cross to reach a tribal temple. The water is ice-cold and the trek is carved in my memory as one of ‘the most scenic forest treks ever’.

If you are looking for a weekend destination, which rejuvenates you enough to face another week of work, KGudi should definitely be on your cards. Believe me, if you don’t see even a single spotted deer, it would still be worth it.
