Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code - A Great Read
The novel that has taken the world by storm is based on the idea that Jesus was in actuality married to Mary Magdelene. Yes, married and fathered a child. The book is The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. A book that stayed on the New York Times bestseller list for half a year. A book that has been made into a major motion picture with one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors, Tom Hanks, playing the part of the protagonist. What makes this novel so fascinating? The answer is simple. We all love a good conspiracy. Juxtapose it with religion and you’ve got yourself a devil’s deal. This is what The Da Vinci Code is primarily about. The conspiracy theory that is at the heart of the book is not something invented by Dan Brown. These ideas have been around for many years now, but because of its fast pace and crisp writing, the book has managed to strike up a debate all around the world with most Christians up in arms about the authenticity of its claims. But, what Dan Brown has managed to do with his book is revive interest in Leonardo Da Vinci, early Christian history, and old Gnostic texts. The Gnostics were early Pagans and Christians who believed that Jesus came to the earth to save mankind from God. Gnostic texts were found to be so threatening that many were destroyed or hidden. Dan Brown has also rejuvenated the publishing industry as the book has sold 24 million copies around the world in 44 different languages, produced eight books refuting the contents of the book and seven guides to decode and understand the book better. Interestingly, the only book that has sold as many copies as The Da Vinci Code in the last two years is the Bible. Dan Brown has certainly achieved a lot. At the center of the plot lies the puzzling question about what, or in this case who, the Holy Grail represents. In Brown’s story the commonly accepted idea of the Holy Grail symbolizing the cup used by Jesus during the Last Supper is rubbished. Here it is a person – Mary Magdalene. Brown pulls us in and shocks us further by presenting Mary as the alleged wife of Jesus who bore his child. The Priory of Sion has been appointed to guard this secret truth, the royal bloodline of Christ and Mary’s well hidden tomb. Whether you choose to believe what the novel states is entirety up to you – the reader. There have been countless articles published documenting Brown’s inaccuracies in the novel and in his theories. However, while reading the book you are transported into a realm that is so realistic that it’s very difficult not to believe in it. So, if you’re in a mood to stay up all night wondering in disbelief about the real truth then read this book. It’s a page-turner and a fascinating experience. It may not be all true, but in a world full of skeptics, you’ll fit right in!
