Imagine broad clean roads, plush green landscaping by the sidewalks and a low rate of traffic jams while your way back from work, and that’s Nagpur, the second most greenest city of India, first being, Bangalore. The city is not too big not too small with every known place at the radius of 4-5 kilometers and what’s more, there are malls and multiplexes all over and an International Airport too. The city experiences the most of every season, with scorching summers, windy rains and chilly winters, and you will start loving it as a retirement resort. Did you know that the zero mile of Nagpur, with a huge orange sculpture sitting on top of it, is the zero mile of India? Yes, the center of the city is the exact center, the heart of the country.

So now that you know Nagpur is a good place to stay and relax how about a brief rundown on the great residential places to rent or buy.

The Central part of the city is formed by Mahal a wholesale cloth market, Sitabuldi the main market of the city, Dhantoli and Ramdaspeth. Let's start with Ramdaspeth, the commercial hub of the city with Stock market updates on a dot matrix display placed right at the center surrounded by big Medical Giants, the reality rates here are soaring high. You can find a decent 2BHK apartment in Ramdaspeth for rent if you can shed 6-7K a month. If you want to buy a flat the rates would be normally around Rs. 3500 per sq ft, though there aren’t much upcoming projects in the area. Dhantoli is another place most suitable for residential purposes with most of it area occupied by tall flats and the rates are mostly similar to that of Ramdaspeth. Sitabuldi and Mahal areas are mainly commercial and not suitable for residential purposes.

The most of West Nagpur are best suitable for residential purposes thus making the living a little costly. Dharampeth, the most sought after place including restaurants, malls, cinema halls and D.P. road, the cool hang out place for youngsters, would be a good option for residing. Here you can find a decent 2 BHK apartment for 4-5K per month. Whereas, the per sq ft rate seems to be similar with Ramdaspeth, Rs. 3500. Shivaji Nagar, Shankar Nagar, and Gandhi Nagar are other good areas in the western Nagpur with rates more or less similar to Dharampeth and have a quieter neighborhood. Bajaj Nagar and Laxmi Nagar areas fall a little low with their price ranges dropping by a thousand bugs a month in case of rental properties. If you stretch more towards the west, the rates get a little cheaper with rental rates falling to 3-5 K a month and flat rates up to Rs. 2000 per sq ft. These areas include Ambazari layout, with the Ambazari Lake and garden and the Krazy Castle built by the Haldiram’s, Pratap Nagar, Trimutri Nagar, Khamla, and Shraddhanand Peth with the famous Shraddhanand Orphanage.

The eastern Nagpur, though not a likable option for residing, forms by Itwari which is the wholesale market for anything and everything, Wardhaman Nagar with INOX at its belt, Nandanwan, Mominpura known for its lip smacking biryanis. The place is quite clogged and mostly commercial with old flats and some bungalows of the businessmen setup in the same areas.

The North Nagpur is altogether another experience with areas like Civil Lines, Sadar, Chhaoni, Jaripatka, Mecosabad, Indora, Friends colony, Seminary Hills and Jafar Nagar. Civil Lines is the place where the Government Offices are located including the High Court building, Ravi Bhavan, Aamdar Nivas, A.G. Offices, RBI Quarters and the city’s greenest parts can be found here too. It’s shady and a literally cool experience even in blistering heat. There is also a Jogger’s lane which is filled with fitness freaks coming in cars and bikes, walking or jogging at the morning hours and evenings. The reality rates are highest here being in par with Ramdaspeth. The rates fall low as you move more towards North. Sadar, the market hub, is full of shops, Restaurants, cinema halls, Schools and commercial buildings, is mostly occupied by people living there for a long time and not a very good option for dwelling. Chhaoni, Raj Nagar, Nelson’s Square are the quietest places of the city and have the riches settled there in huge bungalows or posh flats. The rates are similarly high depending upon the quality of the construction but definitely a good choice for better living. Seminary Hills is another green hub of the city built on a hill with attractions like the Children’s Park, Japanese Garden and a Balaji Temple. The rates are comparatively lower in the area and are fast developing with new construction projects. The same holds true for Katol Road, Friends colony and Jafar Nagar but takes you a little farther from the west part of the city.

The South Nagpur is formed by the Medical Square, Tajbagh, Wanjari Nagar, Manewada and Narendra Nagar. These areas are suitable for lighter pockets as the rates are reasonably low here.

With era of the real estate rise, Nagpur is seeing an urbane development expanding the west Nagpur precincts. The city has seen a fast development at the Wardha Road area after the Cargo Hub Project and the International Sports Stadium by Vidarbha Cricket Association. The plots surrounding this area are a good option for long term investment and looking at the rate of trade, it wouldn’t be long when they all would be gone. The Sahara Project located exactly opposite to the VCA stadium holds a good opportunity for those wishing towards a good lifestyle with state of the art amenities. The prices start from 21 Lacs for single bedroom apartment and they promise possession within two years from the date of booking.

Now if you are looking for hotels while coming out from the airport, Hotel Pride would be a good option. But that is if you are willing to spend 5-6 K for one night. Hotel Airport Center point and Center Point Ramdaspeth are similar options for a luxurious stay. Hotel Chidambara and Sunny International located in Ramdaspeth and Dhantoli are a little cheaper pricewise. But if you want something less than thousand bugs a night, go to Sitabuldi, near the railway station, where you can find innumerable hotels with decent rooms and reasonable rates.

And finally something for the taste buds too. The city has a choice of cuisines spread across the city with various restaurants and food joints. Bawarchi located at Shankar Nagar Square Naivedyam at Dhantoli, Leela’s Gokulpeth, and Cream Corner Ramdaspeth, are some traditional Multi-cuisine pure vegetarian Restaurants with good flavorsome delights. Minerva at Ramdaspeth, Garam Masala at Bajaj Nagar, and Sanjha Chullah in Sadar, are some of the non vegetarian restaurants. And if you want to drive farther, Highway Glory and Nirvana are some good restaurants serving non vegetarian food on the highway towards Amravati. Tandoor, Dwarka and Machaan on Wardha Road with open air settings are a nice getaway.

Fountain Sizzlers and Bistro restaurant located in Dhantoli offers wide variety of savoring Sizzlers and amazing starters. Zinc located in Sadar is an amazing place for Italian food lovers. Then there is Nanking Restaurant at Sadar offering good Chinese food. And the Haldiram joints all over the city are excellent for fast food freaks and veggie lovers. The Babbu’s joint are great for biryani lovers and light at your pockets but amazing for the tummy. There are Pani Puri walas and pav bhaji walas all over the city in the nights and thelas with hot butter dhabeli…mm…yummy.

Lastly, there are Café Coffee Day joints everywhere for coffee breaks.

For weekend fun there is a Multiplex right at the heart of city, the Cinemax with Eternity Mall. INOX is in Wardhaman Nagar which is the first multiplex the city has seen and then there is another one opened up recently in Tuli Mall, Indora. And finally there is Adlabs located in Sakkardhara.

For night lovers and clubbers, there is Ten Downing Street rocking the entire city right at the center in Dhantoli. There is Moksha, a restaurant and pub in Dhantoli, PP’s Garage Pub in Shankar Nagar opposite to Engage, Bunkers in Sadar and V5 in Sadar too, which has a DJ but not a dance floor though. So now that you know all, why think twice, hit the city and have some fun.
