Windflower Resort Mysore: Weekend
Getaway Bangalore

In this article the writer writes about the attractions of Mysore.chillibreeze writerPreeti Sharma

Mysore is a popular tourist destination in Karnataka.

Almost everyone who arrives in Bangalore chooses to drive from Bangalore to Mysore to get a feel of the history of the region. On a recent visit, I spent a weekend in a serene and luxurious new resort in the heart of Mysore city.

Return to India - Moving to IndiaFar from the Madding Crowd!

If your weekend plan involves driving and relaxation, then it is recommended that you visit Windflower at Mysore.

The resort is located at Nazarbad, very much in the city and yet the urban noise seems nowhere around. Old timers know the place as Olive garden. www.thewindflower.com

This is a small spa resort which has recently been opened and seems to be a good getaway from the congested roads of Bangalore and Mysore. If the weather is good, it’s a reasonably good drive from Bangalore to Mysore.

Nothing exceptional about it!

There is nothing spectacular at the resort. It’s just that the peace and tranquility of the place makes the difference.

The water body and swaying trees have a calming effect

It is a neat place with huge, comfortable rooms which have interesting balconies and private gardens opening towards a water body.

The swaying coconut trees add to the serene beauty. I enjoyed my morning cup of tea sitting in the balcony and watching the beauty of the trees and the water.

At night, the water body is lit up and the sound of falling water has a calming effect on tired minds. I must admit that this night effect is the most charming part of the resort.

They call these Balinese cottages. I haven’t visited Bali, so I cannot certify the authenticity.

The service is average as the place is still coming up, but the slow service is made up for by a cooperative and friendly staff that tries to make your stay comfortable.

Important features at the resort include the swimming pool, the spa and proximity to the golf course.

The Emerge Spa

Emerge Spa is a small set-up managed by a lady who moved from the financial world to Ayurveda therapy after the stress got to her. The spa offers Balinese and Ayurvedic treatments including the famous Panchkarma therapy. For more information: emergespa.com

It’s extremely relaxing and a good reason to splurge!

Travel Tips

Remember to get some package or deals clubbed along with spa treatments when you are making the reservations at the Windflower. This is a new and expanding place so good discounts will be on offer for some time to come.

If you are planning sightseeing around Mysore, then do ensure that you have a vehicle for travel. Cabs hired through the resort may prove to be very expensive.

Carry your medicine kit. They have a doctor on call but it’s advisable to be prepared for health emergencies.

If planning to travel by road, drive during day hours as the Bangalore –Mysore highway is still under construction.

Beyond the Resort

Mysore is a historically rich city. You can visit the famous Mysore Palace, the Bull and the Chamunda Devi temple on Chamundi Hills, shop for antiques, sandalwood and the famous Mysore silk and gorge on the delicious Masala dosa!

Enroute to Mysore, you can visit Srirangapatana- the capital city of Tipu Sultan, the famous Deccan warrior, the Ranganthitu Bird Sanctuary and shop for interesting wooden toys at highway outlets at Channapatana.

Connectivity

  • Distance between Bangalore to Mysore: 130Kms
  • Good connectivity by rail and road.
  • Bangalore offers the nearest air link.
  • Highway facilities: Café Coffee Day and Kamat Lokaruchi are the popular ones with good rest rooms.
