How SEO Techniques Help Website Visibility
What Is SEO?Most people are familiar with the term SEO or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is the process of optimizing a web site in such a way that it ranks high on the search results list provided by a search engine for a specified keyword. Generally there are millions of pages available on the Internet for a keyword. A search engine ranks these pages according to their relevance to a certain keyword. It has been observed that a common Internet user browses through the first three pages of search results. So it is the aim of every web site to be listed on these first three pages. SEO is one of the techniques to drive visitors to your web site. The process of SEO can be divided into three phases viz. design SEO, content SEO and page rank SEO. Design SEO deals with designing aspects. Various designing elements like page size, navigation, frames, pictures, Flash movies, etc., affect the SERP(Search Engine Result Page). Page rank SEO deals with the popularity of a web page. Popularity index is based on the number of inbound and outbound links on a page. The former is more relevant because it shows how valuable other web sites find your content and they establish your credibility by linking to you. Content SEO is about optimizing quality content by making it keyword rich and relevant. Content SEO techniques include text optimization, correct choice of title, headings, use of bold and italics fonts for keywords and selection of appropriate meta data associated with the specific web page. In this article we are going to discuss how Content SEO techniques can be useful in driving visitors to a web page. Fresh and Original ContentInnovative and fresh content is the first and most important deciding factor for SERP. Search engines immediately notice new content and index those pages with higher ranking. Page size and interesting themes also play an important role in SEO. Generally, pages sized between 5K to 15K with interesting quizzes, contests and the latest information are considered optimal. These encourage visitors to return to the web site frequently for new updates and information about the latest happenings. In this way leads can be converted into action. Eventually, they are more likely to buy the products you are promoting or subscribe to the services you are providing. Title and HeadingsSearch engines give significant emphasis to title tags while scrawling a web page. A relevant title that is also descriptive about the content of a web page attracts more traffic. A self-explanatory title gives the user a clear idea about the nature of a web page and increases the possibility of a surfer clicking on your link and visiting your web site. The SEO technique of using headings on a page is also helpful to readers, allowing them to quickly scan the content. It gives them an indication about the topic described in a paragraph. Keywords are generally inserted into title tag and headings. Meta TagsMeta tags are also taken into consideration by some search engines. Google does not consider them, but it is advisable to use appropriate meta tags. A meta tag comprises of two components – a meta keywords tag and a meta description tag. Keywords can be listed in meta keyword tags, but they do not carry much value. Meta description tags, however, are important and should not be ignored. They are generally listed on search result pages. Meaningful meta descriptions give a general idea about the information provided on a web page. Clear and concise meta description can encourage a user to click on the link and visit the web site. Keyword DensityApart from the title and headings, appropriate keyword distribution throughout the web page helps in improving SERP. This is a very tricky part of content SEO. It is not an easy task to decide the correct density of relevant keywords within a web page. Less use of keywords does not help in improving ranking and excessive use of keywords may incite a search engine to discard the web page as spam. Correct density of keywords can help in Search Engine Optimization and it also improves the readability of a web page. A reader finds the content meaningful if keywords are used in correct proportion. A simple web page with meaningful and fresh content is a favorite with search engines as well as visitors. It can attract a visitor to the web site again and again and eventually convert a visitor into a client.
