Travel: Four Sides to India

In this article the writer writes about the four sides to India.chillibreeze writerRadhika Kothari

Most readers may groan at the thought of yet another travel article. We’ll keep this article short and sweet as we travel through India – North, South, East, and West. The places mentioned here are situated in four directions are unexplored or hardly explored and but are certainly waiting for avid nature loving travellers to step foot.

Starting with the beautiful beach at Bordi in the West, we will travel to the magnetism of Kodai in South. We then turn east to discover the lonesome yet wholesome land of Kalimpong and then to glorify our travel feet in the truest sense we turn our head to the North, to wear the crown at Harshil, in no other land than the snow kingdom of India, the Himalayas.

travel tips for expats and NRIsBORDI – Life’s a beach

Walk on the sea bed, because the sea hardly comes to the shore! Or walk into the sea with ankle length water and be amazed with the unlikely features of this place. Collect sea shells and sit back to enjoy those tiny boats in far off surface of the sea. The small town of Bordi will satiate your solitary travel! And the perfect backdrop will bait the hidden poet in one. This place showers magic to everyone who comes to her. A three hour drive from Mumbai, this little place is bigger and better when it comes to its picturesque displays.

Be sure to keep your cameras ready for the rare view of the sunset. It may be the pacifying sun or the sinking of the sea with the sun. A place worth the family weekend getaway, if not the solitary traveller. Visit Bordi and explore the sweet air of pleasure. And last but not the least, if you want to feel and sense the bouquet of earth, visit Bordi when the raindrops quench the wait!

KODAIKANAL – Refresh, Revive, Rejuvenate!

The very first reaction you will experience at this place – AAHHH!!! Complete relaxation! Leave your worries behind to enjoy long walks around the lake at Kodai, fondly called so. This hill station will give you its colonial reminiscences with its Indian touch and western venturing. But her wooded slopes, mighty rocks, enhancing waterfalls will only mesmerize your travel. Kodai has its own magnetism that can pull everyone, even the hard rock party goer – who would chose only to calm in this place and who knows, start listening to Richard Clayderman.

Besides, its natural charm and unforgettable memories of peace, this place also gives you the remote to stop time, twitch, turn yourself and REJUVENATE! Kodai is situated in the Palani hills in Tamil Nadu and a few hours drive from Madurai. You won’t find it like a typical hill station because of its uniqueness and cultural convergence. Overall, Kodia is gifted with nature’s beauties and pleasant backdrops only for you! So if you think your life is as slow as the sloth, get that bag and find your very own run-away place.

KALIMPONG – Mr. Perfect (no doubts about it!)

The moment you land in here, you will wonder at the place. It has its own characteristic and tranquility, but will seldom display it. Open your eyes and mind to observe the distinctness of Kalimpong. The hill station has its roots in lush green and pleasing environment. It has the right blend of being an exotic town with mystical corners and enchanting streets, a rare ethnic blend of people and of course, the Orchids!

A few hours drive from Darjeeling, this place has it all. And if all that wasn’t enough, the dense forest, the moss and the lichens and the rusty paths are definite treats for the travellers.

The best part of Kalimpong is its climate, just perfect! Do take those little treks around the region to socialise with the nature bounties of Kalimpong. And if you are the traveller who likes to sit back and take it easy, laze over undulating meadows and the bed of gorgeous flowers. A sure shot for your wholesome travel experience; it will coat you in composed environments and offer special traditions.

HARSHIL – Heaven it is!

The journey towards heaven, for sure! This place is beauty in the truest sense. A small village where you might end up meeting Him! (Catch your breath girls, I mean GOD!) Find yourself in one of the most enchanted spiritual experience in your life. Harshil is green in summer, snow white in winter and only splendidly superb in autumn. The best part of this place is no pucca roads, cleanest air and scrumptious apples. The roads leading to the only hotel in Harshil are chunks of small rocks. Don’t forget to observe the humble people with their even so simple livelihood. But from the fulcrum of those little cottages see gushes of the Ganges, the flourishing coniferous trees and the snow sheltered Himalayan range festooned with the golden grace of the sun. Yet feel the nothingness and render yourself to this mystic beauty! Harshil explodes in nature.

The Harshil Horns, the highest peaks here, have the clouds travelling below them. But beauty has its own price, and this isolated heaven sure has one. It’s a 6-hour tedious and tiring journey from Haridwar. But once you pass those little hills and enter the Himalayan courtyard, be sure to gift you eyes and enthrall your journey with narrow whirling roads, deep, deep- deep- deep valleys and snow straight out of the window. You will see the panorama of the Himalayan kingdom. Be sure to stop and makes those snow balls to throw at each other, there will be plenty before you each your destination.

The uniqueness of Harshil lies in its simplicity which makes it an ‘out of the world’ setting. It’s not about having the exotic life here; it’s all about making sure no matter how big you are - you’re always small in front of Mother Earth.

Coming back to this time, four sides to India, is a journey that still continues for the travellers in search of…

(Well… you just travelled you have the answer!)
