The increase in internet usage over the last decade in India has led to a boom in a number of web services, including jobs websites. Over the last ten years or so these sites have become increasingly sophisticated in their interface design and quality and some have even specialized in niche areas such as NGO jobs or opportunities for recent graduates.
Most websites require you to register as a user to upload your resume and search for job opportunities. These registration processes have become simpler and take just couple of minutes to finish – but the rewards that wait make it worth the effort.
Top 10 websites in India that are essential for job seekers
Marketing itself as India’s No.1 Job Site, Naukri.com is definitely the first port of call on the internet for all jobseekers in India. The website has a ranking system, listing the best places to work in various industries such as IT, Manufacturing and Services. Naukri.com has an easy to understand interface and job seekers can search according to skills, designation, location, years of experience and other criteria. Registration on the website will allow the user to access and apply from a pool of more than 200,000 jobs. The site itself is accessed by over 20,000 recruiters so the success rates of landing one’s dream job is quite high. Monster India, the Indian arm of the international online recruitment network, has a job search engine powered by MagicSearch which promises to find users the right job. The homepage of the website is clean and uncluttered with smooth navigation. Jobs are divided according to category and location. While users can register for free and access a huge database of job vacancies, there are a number of paid services offered by Monster India. These include:
Recruiters and employers who register vacancies on Monster India will have access to over 1.2 crore jobseekers from over 40 countries. A number of attractive packages are available to employers looking for the right candidate for posts in their companies.
Times Jobs may have the same search and apply features as other popular job sites, but it also has its own blog that gives news and career advice. Another popular service that Times Jobs offers is Global Connect – users can showcase work samples and portfolio as well as communicate with potential employers around the globe through IM applications and social media networks. Times Jobs also offers paid services including resume writing and sending resumes to recruiters in India and the Gulf.
JobsAhead claims to be the only Indian job site with three million jobseekers, 83 million page views, 6,000 corporate clients and 150,000 job postings. The homepage of the website categorizes jobs according to industry, location and experience level making it easy for the user to navigate. Paid services for users include resume writing, Resume Blaster – which sends resumes to 1,200 recruiters in India and abroad, and Career Booster which is a combination of the previous two services. Employers can either pay to list jobs or buy access to JobsAhead’s resume database.
Devnetjobs India is the only jobs portal dedicated to international and Indian social development jobs and consultancies. The portal does not have a slick design or user interface but simply lists jobs with the job title, employer name and deadline for applications clearly mentioned. The portal lists the most prestigious job vacancies in the development field in a column on the right side of the homepage. The portal offers recruiters a number of packages for job postings while jobseekers can post their resumes on the noticeboard and subscribe to a weekly newsletter that highlights the best Indian job vacancies in the development field.
CareerBuilder India is part of a network of international job portals. Users can choose to either upload their resume on the website or have jobs that suit their skills emailed to them. They can also join CareerBuilder India’s online community of jobseekers, BrightFuse.com and get advice from an international user base. The portal is one of the few Indian job sites which has a presence on social networks such as Facebook.
Bixee.com, part of the social networking site ibibo.com, claims to be Asia’s largest hybrid job portal with around 1.5 million active jobs at any moment. The job site lists jobs according based on popularity, most wanted locations and top companies. The portal also has its own blog which posts tips on careers and job searches.
Clickjobs.com offers users the facility to search from over 100,000 jobs. Besides the standard resume building services, the site also has a Salary Center where jobseekers can calculate what their ideal jobs should pay, provides information based on market trends, and also has a variety of in-depth articles on salaries. Clickjobs.com is also active on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
CareerAge.com offers a range of career counseling services to users besides the standard resume upload and job search applications. The portal has a Career Forum, Career Magazine and Career Articles that provide valuable advice and networking opportunities. The portal also features a weekly career choice and publishes an in-depth article about it. CareerAge.com posts regular updates on Twitter and also has its own blog. CareerAge.com also runs a website targeted solely at college students, CampusAge, which gives advice on placements and admissions.
One of the few job sites that targets new college graduates, Freshersworld.com has a number of resources to help those who are new to the job market. The portal provides information to college students about looking for jobs as well career counseling. It also has a valuable sample placement papers section, which gives students sample papers for placement tests conducted by private companies as well as government departments. The portal also has a discussion forum for members to exchange information on job hunting and placements.
