India is a rich country endowed with beautiful landscapes, mountain ranges, historical places and a rich cultural heritage. This ageless beauty and warm hospitality has attracted tourists from all over the world and will continue doing so in the years to come. Here are my top five travel destinations that in India.

  1. Taj Mahal
This exquisite epitome of love is the first thing that comes to your mind when you visualize travel in India. Situated on the banks of the river Yamuna in Agra, this magnificent edifice was built entirely of marble by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his dear wife and queen Mumtaz Mahal. Its architectural beauty is unsurpassed and it is without a doubt one of the wonders of the world.
  2. Backwaters of Kerala
The ride through the backwaters of Kerala takes you on a journey of serenity and leisure through exquisite canals, lakes and lagoons. One can enjoy the lush countryside, coconut trees, palm trees and swaying rice fields as you sail on a boat through its waters. Tourists can rent houseboats and relish the natural beauty as they drift through serene waterways on an unforgettable journey along the backwaters.
  3. Gangtok
Gangtok, meaning “hill top”, is the capital of Sikkim and is emerging as one of the popular tourist destinations in India. Situated on the southern slopes of the Himalayas on the ridge of a valley, this city is famous for its monasteries and scenic views of the Kanchenjunga mountain ranges. Some of the famous tourist attractions are Tsangu lake situated at 4500m near the Tibet border and Nathula Pass, the Indo-China border. Special permits need to be taken in advance for these places.
  4. Vagator Beach in Goa
This beautiful beach located in North Goa is 22 kms from Panaji. Vagator is an attractive bay and fairly less developed unlike many other beaches and has a very peaceful and calm atmosphere. The beach does not have too many tourists and hence is the perfect place to unwind in clean and appealing surroundings. There are a number of buses to get there from Panaji and Mapusa and the best time to visit the place is from September to March.
  5. Golden Temple in Amritsar
The Golden Temple is the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion. It stands amidst a pool of water called the Amrit Sarovar. The temple has four entrances in all four directions and welcomes everyone regardless of their religion. The upper storey of the temple is plated with gold and shaped like an inverted lotus. The art and architecture of the temple is stunningly beautiful making it the most visited tourist attraction of Amritsar.
