Paradise Found: Boracay
Need an editable PowerPoint map of Philippines Crystalline water, white, talcum-like sand and swaying palm trees define what is known as one of the world’s best beaches – Boracay, Philippines. Boracay Island is part of the Western Visayas island-group in the Philippines, along with the western part of the province of Negros, the island of Panay, and many smaller islands. An all-year-round tourist destination, Boracay offers unlimited relaxation and entertainment to all. My husband and I had been to Boracay in February 2008 over Valentine’s Day. We did not realize then that this would be an apt destination to celebrate our love. We departed from Singapore to Manila on Jetstar Asia, a low-cost carrier plying to and from Asian destinations. Upon reaching Manila International Airport, we had to transfer to the domestic terminal to board a Southeast Asian airlines aircraft which would take us from Manila to Caticlan. Caticlan is a small town on Panay Island and a stone’s throw from Boracay Island. The Caticlan Airport is located 5 minutes from the jetty port, where there are banca boats waiting to take tourists to paradise. Barely 30 minutes after take-off via Southeast Asian Air, we were able to take in the splendid bird’s eye view of the island from the window. Waiting at Caticlan airport was our hotel representative who promptly whisked us along with our bags to the bus to make our way to the ferry terminal. Once at port, we clambered onto the banca boat and set off on 20 minute journey to reach the island. The final leg of this journey was a short shuttle ride to the hotel we were put up for 2 nights- Friday’s resort. Upon reaching the hotel, we were stunned by the beauty around. White powdery sand, clear water, rows of hotels, bars and restaurants lined along the beach. The journey seemed definitely worthwhile. Upon checking into our honeymoon suite, we headed straight to the inviting beach. Walking barefoot on the beach was a pleasure and we found ourselves with lots of options for lunch. Eventually we decided to buy raw food at the famous "Talipapa" market and had the food cooked right then and there. Food was absolutely delicious with even an option of Indian dining. We then continued to walk along the 4km beach stretch, coming across a shopping street along with many bars, hotels and restaurants. No trip to Boracay is complete without a visit to the undisputed and best dessert stall, Jonas Milkshakes. Watching the sun go down while sipping a glass of fresh fruit juice has to be enjoyed at Jonas. The best part is Jonas is now open 24 hours! If you are into massage, try out Filipino massages right at the beach. Try the Hilot Filipino massage and you’ll never ask for anything more. Alternatively, go straight to the water and go sailing. Try the para sailing at sunset which would give you a good tour around the island. Alternatively, go island hopping and find the best spots for snorkeling. Boracay is a complete relaxation destination, where all you need to do is eat, drink and enthrall your senses!
