A Christmas Evening at Covent Garden, London
Need an editable PowerPoint map of England One look at the place and you will assuredly be taken back to another era. The cobblestone path, the beautiful age-old architecture, the sturdy glass and iron ceiling, the Scottish granite columns and the magnificent central court can make you feel like you were standing in the middle of a busy marketplace, centuries ago. You can almost hear vendors shouting out the prices of their wares and people hustling about, enjoying the smells of the fruit and flowers, making their purchases for the day. Covent Garden, located in the heart of London, looked even more beautiful today, with the dazzling arrays of lights illuminating the area. The central court was decorated very tastefully making it look like a mystical fairyland. The chandeliers were covered with garlands of glass icicles. Splendorous white shining lights hugged the ceiling. It was a beautiful world of white Christmas out there. The entire place looked like a resplendent collection of beautiful hues scattered around artistically. The air was bursting with festive exuberance. The excitement in the air was infectious. People from all walks of life crowded around the various street artists who were busy performing their feats eager to impress even the tiniest toddlers watching them. The musicians were at their finest. It was virtually impossible to stand there listening to them, without tapping our feet. The kids were running from one performer to the other with their parents trying to keep up. Fathers hoisted children up on their shoulders, for them to have a better view of the acts. Just near the entrance, one of the artists climbed up a ladder and juggled with four sharp edged butcher knives, while at the same time gently turning the ladder a full 360 degrees. Every time a knife came down, I felt a jump in my tummy, the moment was very intense, but the artist was totally at ease with the knives, as if he had tamed them. As we moved on ahead, we saw a little crowd around a chair. A closer view gave way to astonishing details, there, on the chair was seated the 'Invisible Man'. He did not have a face at all! He, very deftly, moved his hands without being seen. His hat seemed as if it were suspended in mid-air. He shook hands with little children who stood there, totally bewildered. All that excitement left us exhausted and famished. We decided to satisfy our hunger pangs in one of the many open air restaurants that were brimming with people and then call it a day. Everyone around were happy and cheerful. It was the Christmas spirit that descended in each of our hearts that day.
