A little girl adorned her fathers Air Force peak cap and looked admiringly at her reflection. “Hmm, I look smart”, she decided. In her diary, she wrote something important that night.

Years later, she stood before the same mirror in the uniform and peak cap that she had earned that of the Indian Army. Being among the pioneers in 1994, life as a lady officer was a constant challenge. A woman in a totally male-dominated profession often raised eyebrows as well as question marks. Painstakingly, she paved a path for herself and for her successors to follow. When transferred to remote locations, her companions were her books and her confidante, her diary. She wrote about the people around her, places, emotions and incidents that stayed in her impressionable mind.

After her contractual period with the army, she had a brief stint with the corporate world. But she soon plunged headlong into doing what she loved most - Writing. She started with community magazines and soon, was published in reputed print and on-line magazines, such as Femina, New Woman and Sulekha.com among others. She also published a non-fiction book. There’s a lot of writing in the pipeline and whenever you see ‘Sajita Nair’ as the author, think of me.
