Global Warming and Humankind - An Indian Perspective

The most talked about subject today is the condition of our dear earth – the condition that she is in today, as well as the condition of the inhabitants who dwell on her.

History of civilization tells us how, from Neolithic age, this slow development has taken place and now we that humans have become the rulers of this planet. From history we find that animals of great strength have been extinguished as they have not been able to cope with the changes in their surroundings. It is we who have been able to survive all odds and the almighty has given us the strength to be the ruler. Today we have been able to cage all animals. No other species has been able to cage us.

We the rulers of this earth have done everything possible for our luxury. We the adventurous minded humans have fond out what is there outside this solar system where we live in. Our search to know the unknown is still in progress. It is we who have built bridges to gap between countries; we have built ships to cross the seas and oceans. We have invented airplanes for comfortable journey within a very short time. It is we, who have invented rockets to move around space and other heavenly bodies.
Our mother earth has given us everything that we wanted. We are like the babies in the lap of our mother. A mother gives everything to her child. Likewise our mother earth never says “no” to what we want. She has endured all the pain to give us the natural wealth that is within her. She never cries out of pain when we dig her body to get coal, petrol and other natural wealth from her. She wants her children to be happy - to laugh with joy. She takes pride in seeing the happiness in her children’s eyes.
Nevertheless, we are never happy – we want more. We want to rule the world. We cannot think people of other countries as our brothers. We want to destroy the other and be the monarch of all that we survey. Hence we are not thinking twice before investing immense wealth on invention of newer and newer deterrents. We do not think twice before destroying others.

Today Mother Nature can take it no more. She has started showing her wrath. We have experienced tsunamis. We have experienced several other natural calamities in the recent past. People all over the world are suffering. Many are homeless. Many children have become orphans. The sea water level is slowly rising which has become the concern of the scientists all over the world. The umbrella called the ozonosphere has broken down in many places for which the ultra violet rays of the sun are directly coming on the earth causing fatal diseases like skin cancer on human kind. Change of temperature is experienced in different parts of this universe. The scientists fear that within another fifty years the coastal plains on this earth will go under sea water. There will be scarcity of drinking water for those who will survive. Many will be homeless.
It is the time for us, the children of earth to take proper steps to pacify the belligerence of our mother. We should stop deforestation. Plantation should be carried in full strength in every monsoon. We should not do anything in the name of modernization.
We all love you dear Mother Nature.
