Goa - A Paradise Forgotten
|
To describe the beauty of Goa is seemingly impossible. Some want to think about Goa as the ideal destination for a holiday, which is true in every sense. Vacationing in Goa is indeed a relaxing and enjoyable experience. But in the process of getting a tan on the Goan beach one often tends to forget the real essence of the ecstasy of Goa.
One may visit the ancient churches in Goa, but how many would want to know more about the fine Jesuit architecture. Some of the temples near the cities of Ponda and Panjim are over 400 years old. Again, many of us would walk in the temples with awe, but more than half of us wouldn’t know the deity that is worshipped in that particular temple. Traveling from one place to another often makes us forget that in this tiny state, we are actually roaming from one city to another. Walking into the Fort Aguada little does one know that this Fort depicts the strength and the power of Goa also bearing the first lighthouse of Asia. Each river that flows in this region has a story to tell.
There’s much to know and even more to explore about this paradise. But few are keen on actually taking that step to understand the state that creates such excitement among people of the world.
It’s indeed a shame that what remains of this land is an image that is completely opposite of the serenity that it comprises of. People from all over the world visit Goa atleast once in their lifetime. The present pitiful situation of this god’s heaven on earth is a cause of fear. And in the process of enjoying Goa, we forget to appreciate and nurture the same. Day by day, people are on the verge of forgetting this paradise. Goa is about food, drinks and merriment. But at the same time, Goa is the perfect example of the country that it represents. It’s much more than just sun and sand. The spirit of Goa lies in its beauty and people. To preserve this beauty remains our duty.
