An Indian’s reflections on the salutary wonts of the life in US

Note: The following article is in no way meant antagonize the feelings of any individual or community. The article was written by a sincere true Indian with a yearning to make the already advancing, technologically developing India a better place to live in.

As the upshot of propitious situations in my life soon after marriage, I had a chance to visit USA and spend a short stint of time there.

Being a conventional and a conservative Indian and accustomed to the Indian way of living, I was bowled over by certain things there.

Untainted atmosphere, pristine roads, and declamatory shopping malls with RFIDs in every single item present, svelte living and a lot more. The list of commendations goes on and on…

When we Indians scowl to pay our taxes and try the maximum to bring the TDS to zero in our bank accounts, I was stormed to see the sincerity with which the Americans pay their taxes on time without cribbing.

I was even more surprised to see the government’s interest in erecting bridges and laying 3-6 lane freeways with innumerous exits to overcome traffic jams on roads for the welfare of their people.

I was stupefied to see the strict and stringent road rules that the Americans follow. Unfortunately, a friend of mine ended up in a very small road accident for which he was fined 2000$ instantly with an accident history filed. He was restricted from driving rental cars for the next few months. He was also required to take up a training course within a short stint of time for fear of getting imprisoned if he didn’t do so within the given time. In spite of my sympathy for my friend, I languished for the time when we Indians will get used to such strict road rules thereby preventing the incessant road accidents on Indian roads.

Disposal of trash is yet another ticklish issue. The trash was disposed in declamatory waste management boxes kept in every apartment, which in turn was collected by the trash management authorities twice a week. It urged me then as to why don’t we Indians try to get habituated to such practices thereby paving a way to immaculate roads and unpolluted atmosphere in India.

To add to this list of fine spun issues, the clean free public restrooms kept me in awe.
The routine at work, which the Americans follow, is just extra-ordinary. Most of them are at their office desks sharp at 7 at dawn and out of the office by 5. The work-pressure that they take up during working hours is just beyond words. For this backbreaking effort that they put in the weekdays, they can afford illimitable enjoyment in the weekends.

I was dumbstruck to see the cleanliness that Americans uphold even in public transport services.

I would say that the best example of an independent life is an American who has not even heard of an ‘ayah’ helping out with household chores. He/She does his/her own laundering, dishwashing, ironing and cooking notwithstanding his/her hectic life.

The respect that they have for each other’s personal space is astounding.

On seeing these in the American way of living, I craved to get for such good habits that have already become a part and parcel of an American’s life! With incomparable, talented, technologically advanced youth in India, let us follow such good examples thereby making India a seventh heaven to live in a few years from now!
