Interview with Ace Pilot Neetu Gupta

interviewing Neetu Guptachillibreeze writerSamarth Singh

Try blending brains, good looks, a zealous nature and a soft spot for Mother Nature! What do you have?

Read on...

Capt. Neetu Gupta started off as a lassie born and brought up in the city of Mumbai. Loreto Convent High School and Ruia College of Arts and Science being her alma maters, she soared through her initial years of education before joining the Bombay Flying club following her ardent desire to challenge nature. Having completed her commercial pilot license course (CPL) in record time and attaining her license at 19 she won herself a stand in the Limca book of records for being the youngest commercial pilot in India. Was any of this planned? She diplomatically answers, "I love my profession the most and want to be a pilot every time I am reborn."

Neetu, still single, claims she hasn't found Mr. Right as yet and with credentials like these to match, we wouldn't blame her! After completion of her CPL, she's been flying the Maharashtra Government's fleet of Beechcraft, which is used to fly State as well as Central Government VIP's. In the year 2000 she skillfully handled an engine failure emergency with five State Government VIP's on board, and for this she was felicitated by the Deputy CM of Maharashtra.

Neetu's also the President of Mumbai's premier, Bombay Flying club. Talk about scholarships and felicitations and the list is galore starting right from Women In Aviation International, USA to Giants International! A flattered Neetu responds, "I'm not a coverage hungry wannabe stalwart." For all her laurels she humbly credits her family members, especially her mother. Neetu completed her graduation from Mumbai University during her busy job schedule and enjoys trying her hand at gardening and painting when not at work. She is actively involved with the Indian Women Pilot's Association. For aspiring pilots she prescribes, "The Road to Success is always under construction." Hard work, coupled with a little bit of good luck and a whole lot of God's help is what she believes in. Now, with over 2000 hours of flying experience, Neetu will soon be going in for her command endorsement on the Super King Air - 350 aircraft.
