Personal Mission Statement

Personal Mission Statementchillibreeze writerMrinali Lothey

What do we mean by a mission statement? A mission statement, simply described, is a list of your values and your aspirations. Your mission statement influences the choices you make in your day-to-day life. It helps you maintain enthusiasm and focus on what is important.

Steps to make a personal mission statement:-

  1. Start maintaining a record book to do some writing work.
  2. Set short-term goals. For this, you should know what you exactly want by the end of your life, be it good health, money or to be highly qualified.
  3. Now, keeping in mind your present situation, decide what short term goals will be instrumental in taking you to your ultimate goal? For example, if you want to enjoy good health till the end of your life and you are overweight, your first short term goal would be to reduce your weight (through healthy means such as exercise and by following a proper diet regime).
  4. Now set a time limit for its achievement. List all things you will need to do to achieve your goal. In the above example it would be exercising regularly, maintaining healthy eating habits etc.
  5. Now make a list of all the qualities you will need to develop for this.
For this, you need to maintain discipline.
  6. Select two or three people from your life whom you admire the most. Try to get them to spend some time with you. Be candid when asking for help so that you can develop in yourself the quality you admire most in them. An example could be a friend whose self-confidence attracts your attention.
  7. Now for the final process of your mission statement summarized…. Think of any symbol that appeals to you. This will add color to your mission statement and keep it from becoming dull and boring. Choose a symbol that will represent the quality you want to develop. It could be an animal, a bird, a flower, or any object of nature. For example, if ‘the eagle’ appeals to you for its strength and powerful flight, you could choose it as your symbol. Draw the symbol in your record or paste a picture.
  8. Now take some colored pen and write down things to do and the qualities you listed in step four and five beneath the symbol. Start sentences with I will……..For instance, I will follow healthy eating habits.
  9. Final Step? Make a pledge to follow this religiously.
