Need an editable PowerPoint map of India
Knowing that India is the 7th largest country in the world and a peninsula at that, it isn’t surprising that it is replete with breathtaking tourist attractions. Be it historical places in Rajasthan, lovely slopes of the North East, gorgeous valleys in the North, or the magnanimous beaches and greenery of the South, India has a wide variety of attractions that can be a visual treat for the tourists. Although narrowing the list to just ten would be quite an arduous task, we can categorize them as historical attractions, wildlife sanctuaries, and scenic destinations. Historical Attractions
Agra: Famous for the Taj Mahal—a marble dream which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, this beautiful city also boasts of other attractions like the Agra Fort and the Fatehpur Sikri—a city close to Agra with a brilliant gateway called Buland Darwaja. The city is also famous for its many Persian-styled Mughal gardens. Jaipur: Known as the Pink City, Jaipur has lot of tourist attractions stacked very close to each other. Jantar Mantar is an observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh in stone and marble. The Hawa Mahal and the City Palace are two other famous structures that are great examples of Rajput and Mughal architecture. Other attractions include the Rambagh Palace and the Jaigarh Fort.
Delhi: It is the capital city and holds its own when it comes to tourist attractions that are present here in plenty. Most notable amongst them is the Red Fort, which is also the venue of Independence Day celebrations in India. Other major attractions include the Qutub Minar—a five storey-tapering tower that is almost 73 meters high and the Jama Masjid which is the largest mosque in India. Wildlife Sanctuaries Gir National Park: This national park in Gujarat is the only habitat of the gorgeous Asiatic lions. The recently reported increase in their number ensures that they are in good hands here. Apart from the 300 lions that live here, Gir is also famous for almost 200 bird species including crested serpent eagle and variety of doves. Other inhabitants include chinkara, wild boars, black bucks and the marsh crocodiles. Kaziranga National Park: Located on the South bank of Brahmaputra, this magnificent wildlife sanctuary is famous for the one-horned rhinos and their archrivals—the tigers. Other rare species of animals that one can spot in this park are swamp deer, wild boars, wild buffalos, capped langurs and badgers. Various species of eagles like palla’s fishing eagle and gray-headed fishing eagle, along with Bengal floricab, whistling teal and pelican can also be spotted. Corbett National Park: A vast national park, it extends over an area of 500 sq km and is located near the Himalayan foothills. Famous for its tiger reserve, its varied wildlife inhabitants include Indian Pangolin, flying fox, chital, sambar, nilgai, gharial, common musk and as many as 600 species of birds, virtually a treat for any wildlife enthusiast. Scenic Destinations Kerala: It is known as the Land of God for obvious reasons. With gorgeous beaches like Kovalam, traditional boat festivals, the backwaters at Alappuzha and the archipelago of Kumarakom, Kerala is one place you should not miss. It is also famous for hill stations and boat houses. Goa: Goa is one of the most versatile tourist spots in India. Its magnificent beaches attract tourists from all over the world. The carnivals of Goa have their own charm and for those who love old sites and architectural marvels, the churches of Goa influenced by many styles including Spanish, Dutch and the Portuguese are something not to be missed. Rameshwaram & Kanyakumari: Located at the tip of the Indian mainland, Kanyakumari is famous for the Sangam or meeting point of three water bodies. It also has the Vivekananda Rock memorial that one can reach by a 10 minutes boat ride from the mainland. 3 hours from Kanyakumari is Rameshwaram, which is a pilgrimage site for Hindus and famous for the Adam’s bridge—a beautiful island worth a visit. Himachal Pradesh: The valleys of Kulu and Manali are a cool retreat for those who are looking to get away from the heat and enjoy nature’s beauty. There are some caves and famous passes along with some important temples. One can go further up north to Kashmir with its gorgeous valleys full of flowers and snow-capped mountains.
