Why More and More Women are Opting to Work at Home

Why more and more women are opting to work at homechillibreeze writerGrace Arundati

Gone are the days when women were stay-at-home moms and the men went out to work to bring home the bacon. Gradually, women started working outside the home but also had to play a dual role of housekeeping and taking care of the kids. These days, an increasing number of women prefer working in the comfort of their home.

Why is working from home so popular among women
One of the reasons women are opting for work-at-home opportunities is that there is an opportunity to earn more money than a fixed monthly income. Depending on the number of hours and effort one is willing to put in, there’s no limit to what one can earn working these jobs.

Women find that they have more time at their hands when they work at home. No more travelling long distances to get to the workplace and more holidays at hand. They now find that they are able to earn even more by spending a mere 2 to 3 hours at the desk at home than working eight hours a day in the office.

The most important aspect women love about working at home is their newfound freedom. You get to be your own boss, you set your deadlines, and you determine your availability. You work at your leisure, choose your days off, and select what times you’ll be working. No strict dress codes to adhere to and the freedom to be themselves. A flexible schedule is enticing for most women as it allows them to balance the zillion things a woman today has to balance.

Advantages of working from home
Women are able to spend more time with their kids, help them with their homework and spend quality time with their family, all without compromising on their financial independence. They get the intellectual stimulation they need, the platform for their talents and to utilize their skills, and do not have to cope with the guilt feeling that they aren’t spending enough time with their families.

The best thing about working at home is of course being home! You choose your own work space and feel at ease and have everything you need at an arm’s reach. With mobile phones, internet connections, and computers everywhere, women are able to scout for the best money making opportunities available all over the world.

Workplace vs. working at home
A more complex issue that more and more women are dealing with is harassment from their male colleagues and superiors. More time and effort is spent in trying to ward off these advances and the double standards that still prevail at the workplace undermine their abilities and dent their confidence. Women find they can now steer clear of these problems and focus on getting ahead in life single mindedly.

Financial rewards and tax benefits make it more enticing for women to work at home. Women no longer have to depend on their bosses for a possible promotion or a raise because their income is directly related to their performance when they work at home. It is easier to save as the expenses related to travel, wardrobe, babysitters, and childcare are reduced.

Getting a grip!
Having control over their work environment and schedules makes women realize a freedom they’ve never felt before. The stress and anxiety of pleasing one’s colleagues and superiors for fear of being passed over for a promotion is reduced. Working at your own pace instead of joining the rat race is a benefit that beckons many women who have to cope with several demands at home and the workplace.

Even homemakers, students, retired women, and the disabled find that the opportunity to work from home is fulfilling and provides an opportunity to earn a stable or additional income. Job security, self motivation, increased productivity, and healthy competition are some of the other benefits enjoyed by women working at home.
