All About Joomla
So you want to create a website...but your problem is that you do not know HTML (Hyper text Markup language) which is used to make websites. You also want your website to be flexible in the sense having the ability to grant other's access to the web pages so as to edit them from a web browser. And even if you have a website created, you don't want to lose your earlier web pages while having them updated. We now have a technology called Content Management System specifically used to solve all these problems. Some of the general functions for CMS are content creation, content management, publishing and presentation. One of the most powerful open source content management systems is Joomla. Joomla has been awarded the best PHP open source content management system award for 2007 declared by Packt, a publishing company notably known to support open source CMS. The term Open Source is used for certain software which are developed by people for everyone to use for free. The main benefit for having an open source CMS for your website is that it is free and usually distributed freely. Some companies package it to make installation easier, for this they charge a small fee. While others sell the product and give you free support for a limited period. The downside is, open source CMS is basically developed for the Linux platform and so its installation, support and upgrade can be difficult. Joomla is an open source software and is constantly being developed and improved with online help which is available in the form of forums. It has built-in functionality like print page, PDF, newsfeeds, site search and email. It has also a built-in private area for members if required, where pay for view content can be run for subscribers. Joomla has an advantage of being compatible with add-on modules or extensions having additional functions like multimedia, commerce and stuff like forums. It includes ad management software and also has reliable statistics for the given articles and for the entire site. It is browser compliant with having optional functions of changing text and layout sizes. But despite having all these benefits, Joomla, being open source, is vulnerable to attack from hackers looking for possible ways to exploit the code. Security is an issue with Joomla as well as with any other CMS. As the system runs entirely online, internet connection needs to be far more reliable and faster. Conversion of a static site having thousands of static pages as well as hosting it, has also turned out to be lengthy and complex. Needless to say, one needs to experiment with different content management systems (other than Joomla) before making the move of converting it into a CMS website .But with today's cutting edge technology and day to day breakthrough of finding and building effective solutions and top of all the large amount of existing data that needs to be showcased and managed, CMS has an advantage over every kind of conventional made websites.
