Google has surfaced as the Best Company to Work for in India as per a poll conducted jointly by The Economic Times and Great Place to Work Institute. The survey is regarded as India’s most prestigious employer benchmarking study and includes over 400 companies across the country. The Best Companies list is decided on the basis of surveys undertaken by employees. The surveys cover a host of factors mainly career growth, fairness in the organization, respect enjoyed by employees, pride for the job, credibility and camaraderie. A great workplace ensures employee satisfaction which is a prime contributor in the performance of a company.

A total of 67,000 employees across 20 sectors participated by contributing their views on a great workplace. The results clearly indicate that pay is no longer the priority for employees. Here are the companies that topped the list.

1. Google
Google believes that every employee has something important to say and that every employee is integral to their success. It launched Greyglers, an initiative to retain employees over a certain age. Their individually tailored salary packages, professional development opportunities, fun at work, medical and stock benefits are the key factors that elevated Google to the top of this list. Google is also ranked first in the Best Companies in Communication list.

2. Intel Technology
Intel is known for its tough, confrontational culture in which employees are encouraged to speak up. Workers get an eight-week paid sabbatical every seven years. Intel is also ranked best company in Employee Recognition and best company for work life balance.

3. MakemyTrip
MakemyTrip is India’s leading travel services organization. Deep Kalra, Founder and CEO, says "We believe that happy employees create happy customers.” Makemytrip has also been ranked #1 in the Professional Services Category and in the special category awards of "Fun@Work" & "Employee Involvement & Collaboration". Makemytrip is offering ESOPs to 70% of its workforce

4. American Express Bank
This company offers its employees a great work life balance, a possibility of moving to different roles every 18 months, sabbaticals and vacation benefits. It practices a scheme called bi-annual Climate Survey where the employees are given the chance to rate their bosses twice a year. Amex also has a special pregnancy care program for female employees.

5. Marriott Hotels
Marriott refers to all employees as associates as a mark of respect. Feedback is obtained from the new recruits and shared with the department heads. Complimentary stay in their hotels is offered to associates on their birthdays. In the special category awards, Marriott is ranked as the Best Company for Employee Appeals and Redressal.

6. Classic Stripes
A leading producer of stripes for two and four-wheelers, Classic Stripes has featured in this list for the 7th consecutive time. In an era of BPO culture, where companies are struggling with their attrition rates, Classic Stripes enjoys an attrition rate of less than 1%. Employees are rewarded with a staying on bonus as they complete 5 years of service.

7. Scope International
Scope International provides a cozy environment to its staff. Employees can take a break whenever they feel stressed. Approachability and accessibility of senior management are the highlights here. The company offers a work from home option to many employees and has many women in its senior management team.

8. Agilent Technologies
Agilent designs and manufactures electronic and bio-analytical measurement instruments and equipment for measurement and evaluation. Every employee feels a strong sense of belonging for the company right from the start. You will find many vacant seats because many employees have taken the option of working from home. Agilent believes in commitment, fun at work and positive feedback.
