Corporate Communication

Corporate Communicationchillibreeze writer Piyush Chandra

Corporate Communication refers to Communication from the organization for its internal and Internal and External stakeholders, where:

  • Internal Stakeholders are Employees and Shareholders
  • External Stakeholders are General Public, Business partners and media

Corporate Communication is a responsible act. An error here can cause irreparable damage to an organization’s image.

Top 10 best solutions for improving Corporate Communication:

1) Medium for Communication: The medium for Corporate Communication should be chosen on the basis of penetration instead of convenience and availability. Use of 2-3 mediums at the same time increases the value of the message to the receiver.

2) Strong Subject Line: People remember only a portion of the message after a while. Also, to facilitate passing off of message through gossip, subject of the message should be informative.

3) Simple Language: Use of fancy and non- colloquial vocabulary can dilute the interest of the receiver or may be interpreted as, “not for me, I guess” message. Message should use simple language/ regional language for better reach ability.

4) Message Pre-Information: A message informing date, medium and instructions of use (if any new technology is being used to convey the message), before the actual message, of the actual message increases preparedness and curiosity of people towards the message.

5) Mutual Benefit: A message which shows warmth and concern towards the receiver is always highly appreciated. The tone should convey a mutually beneficial message.

6) Message Carrier: Influential people within the organization should be taken into confidence and subsequently, their popularity, within the people in and outside the organization, should be utilized well to convey the right intentions of the message.

7) Confidentiality: The contents of the actual message should be kept confidential with utmost care to avoid ripples. A competitor may take advantage of the situation by passing off misleading information before the actual message arrives. In such cases, people tend to believe what they heard first and the purpose may be lost.

8) Message Content: The length, font and color (if any) of the message should be carefully chosen as people believe, “what looks good, works good”.

9) Timing of the Communication: The Corporate team needs to ensure that the message is appropriately timed. Frequent communications decrease the value and a very long gap leads to ignorance.

10) Follow up: Acknowledgement of righteous intentions to the sender ensures that the message has been effectively delivered. A strong follow up mechanism needs to be designed and maintained to confirm that the message has reached the desired recipient/s.
