What are E Books?

E Books are books in electronic or digital format. They are sold as CD ROMs, can be downloaded from the web and read on PC monitors, palm tops or hand held readers or printed on demand.

What are E book features not found in print books?

• High capacity storage: The volume of information that can be digitized and stored is enormous. A single CD ROM or DVD can store several books
• Portability: Digital storage reduces the bulk and weight. One can easily carry several books easily.
• Anywhere access: One can download e books from publishers’ websites after making payments from anywhere in the world.
• Topic search: One can search for specific information faster in an e book compared to the laborious reading involved in print forms.
• Readability in poor light: Most reading devices have back lights for illumination.
• Customization features: The reader can adjust font size, type, layout and magnification.
• Add On features:
  Text to audio conversion- specially useful for the visually handicapped
  Instant duplication- can be easily copied and distributed
  Can be shared and read by several users on a network.

• User friendliness and inter compatibility between formats and reading devices are aspects still being addressed by software and hardware technologists.
• The idea of reading a book from a screen is still not appealing.

• Piracy is a critical aspect. It is easy to download and make copies.
