1. MEDKNOW
Medknow publishes over 30 medical journals using an open access software through which online submission, peer review etc. is made really simple
This presentation covers e-publishing models, developments in e publishing and the various formats in use, along with the hardware and software aspects. Also highlights issues related to e-books.
The goal of Project SJPI is to improve the accessibility of scientific literature published in Indian journals by introducing an indexing system.
The objectives to achieve this include:
Installing a prototype Journal content Indexing system, using sample open access journals;
Installing a Harvester - to harvest and search across all the prototype journals;
Demonstration and Consulting editors:
o Demo capture of metadata during the submission process
o Demo power of OAI-PMH through harvester
o Refine OJS with feedback
Organizing workshops to transfer our knowledge to those who are in journal publishing.
1Library Information Science (LIS) is witnessing a vast change caused by automation, digitization, communication technologies, networks, globalization, etc. The implication of these new trends demand a change in the present curriculum of LIS, to accommodate the needs of the new Information market.
Library Professional Education is rapidly changing, to meet new demands. To optimize investment and to work within limited budgets, libraries may need to form creative partnerships and alliances with other libraries and stakeholders.
Libraries find that sharing e –resources is simpler than print resources. A look at the issues involved in the organization and enabling of access to e-resources.
This paper makes a case for enabling Legal Deposits, which is the means for gathering together the nation’s published heritage and development. It is also a statutory provision, enforcing legal binding to publishers for depositing their works in designated institutions.
Highlights the challenges faced by libraries in the present electronic era – in procuring, organizing, accessing, storing, preserving and sharing documents of various types.
