Restaurants in Koramangala
Need an editable PowerPoint map of India Koramangala is a booming locality in south-east Bangalore. Thanks to its proximity to the IT zones (eCity, Whitefield, Outer Ring road), it has become a home for people of all walks of life from all parts of India and abroad. This plethora of different cultures is very evident by the variety of restaurants here. There is fierce competition amongst the restaurateurs to satisfy the hungry palates of the Koramangala residents. At least one new eatery starts every month in some corner of the locality. Success is not a guarantee, even if the location is good. The cuisines, service and quality offered often decide the eatery's fate. Eateries like Ravi's Kitchen, Soo Ra Sang have come and gone, not without leaving a lingering taste in the mouth. However once the restaurants become popular, there is no stopping them (unless their cook runs away!). The prices at Koramangala's food joints start from rock bottom rates and end up being astronomical, depending on how much and where one wants to eat. Thus everyone can enjoy the culinary delights of Koramangala. Europeans can have a taste of home at Fiorano or Via Milano, both offering delectable Italian fare. Via Milano is a tad better than Fiorano - its pizzas are delicious (e.g. the ‘Bollywood’ pizza!) and the ambience is superb. Fiorano's desserts are out of the world - the chocolate mud pie is a must-have for chocoholics. A meal for two including alcohol at both the places will come up to Rs.. 1500 to Rs.. 2000. Kubay serves delicious Konkan food -- Manglorean and Goan cuisines. Its specialties include Mussels rava fry, Prawns in Garlic butter, Kane pepper fry, Crab/Clams sukka masala, Mangalore Gassi (a khus-khus based curry) and Chicken Xacuti. The fish/chicken curries can be eaten with kori roti, sanas, iddiappam or neer dosa. Pork vindaloo is also available here. Drinks served are sol-kadi (kokum flavored coconut milk) and kokum water. A meal for two costs from Rs. 400 to Rs. 600, depending on the type of seafood ordered. People craving Tamilian authentic food head straight to Sri Krishna Kafe, where one can eat traditional fare like Podi dosa, pongal and drink great filter coffee. Numerous Darshinis and Sagars abound in Koramangala, offering 'multi-cuisine' food -- South Indian, North Indian and Indo-Chinese. A meal for two would cost a maximum Rs. 200. The Bengali population in Koramangala throngs Bangaliana, its specialty being Bengali sea food. The day’s special items like Betki Paturi (Betki covered with mustard paste and cooked in a banana leaf), Telapia Jhol, Chingri Jhol (Prawn curry) are written on a white board. Along with the dal-sabzi-rice meals, one can order fish/chicken/mutton curries. One can finish off the meal with malpua or rasagulla or misti doi or chatni (tamarind based sweet chutney). Note: Lunch starts here from noon and the place gets filled up by 12:30pm! A meal for two including two fish curries here will come to around Rs. 400. There are a lot of ‘messes’ in the small by-lanes, which cater to the working class during the lunch hours. These generally serve Andhra or Kerala meals. Jyoti Nivas College is surrounded by several small eateries meant to suit the budgets of the college students. The most popular ice-cream parlor in Koramangala has to be the Cornerhouse. Its neighbors like Cream and Fudge Factory, Baskin Robbins have not been able to bite into Cornerhouse's popularity. Cornerhouse's DBC (Death by Chocolate for the uninitiated) is simply unbeatable. It even has an Orkut group dedicated to it! Koramangala offers many options for those needing something stronger to destress. Pubs like Jukebox, Firanji Paani offer great drinks along with good food. Jukebox is particularly known for its Parsi food and Sizzlers. Purple Haze too has a branch here. The supermarkets here have well-stocked liquor sections. Often they also sell imported items, which are a boon for the expat population. Koramangala truly has a perfect mélange of food and drink, making it a haven for food lovers. Appendix: For all those who want to try out the eateries/pubs mentioned above, their locations in Koramangala are as follows:
