Working From Home
Considering all these factors, more and more people from all walks of life are deciding to work from home. The most important reason for this is spending more time at home and with their family. They save a lot of time, which would have been spent in traffic jams and they don’t blow their tops at family members for being late to work. Though deadlines do exist, nothing is time bound to the minute and hence doing something at your own pace is satisfying. No longer do people feel like they have no friends because of the guilt of not being able to spend enough time with your family. They are able to ensure that a good healthy meal is waiting for their family at the end of the day. This way they have the best of both worlds and an advantage over the most valued resource – time. No longer do they have an excuse for not taking care of their health because they have no time to exercise. They are able to work when they want and how they want. And of course if they want to catch up with a daytime soap, they can still do it. But does this mean that you are cutting yourself off from colleagues or business partners? With the huge advancement in real time communication technology, this is not a problem at all and it only gets better. Meeting colleagues and business partners at regular intervals and not on a daily basis definitely puts a fresh perspective on things. Big companies are now encouraging employees to work from home at least one day a week, which saves valuable time in commuting. Also with regards to natural resources, global warming and other environmental hazards, by having a home office we would be doing our little bit by saving on gas and reducing pollution. No longer are you stuck in dull box size cubicles. You can make your office bright and cheerful and even have music blaring if that suits your kind of job and your style of working won’t disturb co-workers. However, how much of this is actually possible? You have to clearly differentiate between home and office. A strict discipline to follow work timings and stick to deadlines is something that you need to dictate to yourself as you are your own boss. A lot of dedication and time would be required to set up a home office initially, but the rewards hereafter are endless.
