A new economy emerges when varied macro and micro level factors come into play and affect the manufacture, trade, distribution and consumption of goods and services. As an economy evolves new dimensions in current jobs have to be examined in perspective of the present and forecasted trends. This may lead to new job requisites and qualifications and many more complementary vocations being discovered.
The social fabric of a country (the culture, demography, etc.) also has an impact on the career choices available, to a generation. With the senior working generation on its way to retirement and the recession holding its head high causing industries to struggle to stay in business, it is projected that careers in healthcare, technology, education and analysis will be the top hiring sectors in the years to come. The jobs in the new economy would be:
1. Doctors and home nursing aides:
More and more people from the working “senior” generation would need nursing or health assistance in the next few years. Since assisted living facilities are nearly non-existent and even taboo in some societies, they would need health care help at home, especially when there are no family members around. Nurses certified by a medical society would get an edge over others. Such persons may be certified Nursing Aides. Such aides would be helpful in caring for people with mental and/or physical disabilities. Doctors would always be needed to cure the old and sick.
2. Teachers
As schools adapt to new technology and the veteran teachers on the brink of retirement, new teachers would be needed to replace such open positions. People opting for higher qualification have been at all-time high, so teachers adept in modern technological teaching methods would be required in universities and colleges. Thus, demand for teachers would be substantially high, especially in the science stream preparing a new generation for the next technological advancements.
3. Computer programmers
Computers have made inroads in almost every business sphere. Most businesses have going digital, irrespective of the level of their operations - big or small; regional or national. In creating an online presence and development of internal programs, computer programmers would be needed from initialization, to production and to round the clock support. As technology changes, their function would be to constantly upgrade all business software systems.
4. Sales representatives
With the recession hitting hard, new enterprises mushrooming, and older ones struggling to maintain their foothold, hardcore sales representatives are the need of the hour to sell their products and services. Even though many business processes have gone digital, would need a competent sales rep to sell that extremely confusing medical insurance to a very skeptical buyer. Sales representatives who can think out of the box and are hard workers with high goals have always been in demand and will be greatly sought after in future as well.
5. Trend analyst
All governments and businesses want to be ready for all scenarios that may develop in the future i.e., they want to predict or forecast what the future holds for them. Their concerns may range from voter’s inclinations to consumer preferences. Absolute and appropriate collection, analysis and interpretation of data are imperative for all forecasts. It helps, both, the governments and business to plan and implement strategic policies in the present for the future. Economic analysts with a vision are in high demand to cater to such requirements.
6. Child Care Providers
In double income households, the importance of childcare providers cannot be denied. These people provide healthy and hygienic learning environment for children for the whole day. Parents are now demanding high quality child care service even at a premium price. The market has also reciprocated to this growing demand, as is evident from the explosive growth of early learning centers or pre-kindergarten schools and early child care programs. Both the programs call for highly trained professionals who command a competitive salary, at par with any other industry. In short, early childhood education is a lucrative and well paid career, and seems to have a bright future as well.
7. Management Consultant
A new trend has been noticed in many industries, wherein, they seek help of external experts to help out in specialized problems and challenges. Such persons are capable of providing unbiased solutions to complex internal problems, unlike an in-house expert. Such consultants may get assignments world-wide based on their experience, expertise and trouble shooting skills. With the advent of wireless devices and new technology such consultants can provide their expertise in the luxury of their homes.
8. Networking Specialist
As technology progresses in leaps and bounds, new devices are being incorporated by many companies. Such gadgets as wireless phones, laptops, mobile phones, USB, etc. are being used within premises of a company and by its employees remotely. A network specialist needs to integrate all these devices, its data and data structures. A network specialist is an in-demand position for a majority of companies as all keep themselves abreast with new technology.
This is not an exhaustive list of jobs that would be sought after in the new emerging economy. The economic system is so vast and diverse and varied across all geographies that some jobs that may be lucrative careers may come as a surprise to even the best economic analyst.
