Yes, most certainly there is, and it is here! So, by the time you finish reading this piece, you will be at least 4-6 pounds lighter!!!

Sounds familiar? Weren’t you promised the same reward when you went on that apple diet, that lady’s finger diet, that soybean diet and that lettuce diet? You even tried that bizarre-sounding pizza and popcorn diet! Sure, you did lose a few grams that sprang right back once you resumed your normal routine. You also lost your peace of mind and your resolve. You then looked at slim people and wished that they were wiped out from the face of the earth. You were also about to chuck your weighing scale into the trash bin when you heard of miracle foods like Green Tea, Slim Milk, Oatmeal, Bottle gourd Juice, Tofu, Fat-free Rice. You then stocked up your kitchen with these so called diet foods at double the price. But ho-hum couldn’t figure out whether to consume them before meals or after or in lieu thereof.

Ok. Just when you were about to give up you heard of fat burners, protein shakes, diet pills and more. But you were scared stiff when you heard that they had serious side effects. Then, you noticed the numerous weight loss centers that emerged suddenly in your neighborhood. Sure they’d tuck your tummy, hips, thighs, arms and most definitely your wallet.

So, what’s to be done? In the battle of the bulge, if all this does not really work , then what does? Is there a miracle cure ??? A magic wand or a flab-to-fab-formula?

Yes, indeed there is.

And you don’t have to buy expensive items or sign up for anything to achieve this. All you need is the power of your mind and some simple strategic planning.

* Utilise the power of your mind: Now, how does the mind figure into all the bulges? Well, it does. Here’s how. First, visualize a slim, new you. Believe that this is achievable and it is something that’s happening now.

Hold an image of yourself of the size you’d like to be and identify with it. To trick your mind and your body into believing this eventuality, buy clothes a size or two smaller. Sign up for activities that befit slimmer figures like dancing, sports, swimming and so on. Have slim thoughts and get a slim body.

While we’re on this mind-control plan, what we also need to work on is to keep stress levels low. More stress means more stress hormones (cortisol) means an increase in appetite and you sure know what that means.

* Make Simple Lifestyle Changes: Nothing drastic. Just simple changes followed with regularity:

**1) Modify your Eating Patterns: Since “no one can eat for you and no one can lose weight for you”, you should remember these pointers.

A] What to eat: Every item we consume has a Glycemic Index or GI. GI means the amount of sugar raised in the blood after consumption of a food item. Different foods have diff GIs. If we remember to eat foods with low and moderate GI, we will never pile up the pounds. Now, which are the foods that have low or moderate GIs? Just remember the foods that have a high GI and avoid them like the plague. These are all sweets, desserts, colas, fried stuffs and refined flours like maida, cornflour and so on.

What this means is that you can safely eat most fruits except mango, banana, grapes, chikoo, custard apple and all vegetables except potatoes, arbi, peas and your wheat, bajra, jowar, rotis. What about midmeals- you can have whole wheat vegetable sandwiches, upma, oats porridge, sprouts, boiled chana, egg-whites.

Also, try and include protein at every meal. Dals, lentils, nuts, dairy products, soyabean are good choices. Other excellent low-calorie sources would be egg whites and lean meats like skinless chicken and steamed fish.

B] When to eat: Eat every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolic rate high. Also, eat heavier meals during the day and lighter meals at dinner time; make sure that you have your dinner at least 3 hours before bedtime.

C] How to eat: Eat frequent small meals rather than few large ones. Always eat low GIs like salads and soups before main meals so that your consumption is checked. This is of vital importance when going for a party or a dinner invitation. Make sure you have eaten a substantial amount of low GI food so that you don’t binge on heavy snacks.

2) Make exercise a part of your life: Move. Move. Move. Get your heart rate up for at least 20 mins 4 times a week. This means 20 mins of walking, jogging or anything else like dancing, swimming, cycling or playing a sport. You might feel that you are active the whole day through doing house work, office work, looking after kids and so on, but are you getting your 20 mins of elevated heart rate? You could exercise at any time of the day. Remember to warm up before any exercise regimen and cool down right after.

Yoga, Jogging, aerobics, Pilates, spinning—there are so many options. Yoga, we all know, is awesome for peace of mind and keeps internal organs in great health. However, I cannot but emphasize on the efficacy of weight training when it comes to shaping the body. Weight training also increases resting metabolic rate. So, you burn more calories even after you’ve finished your exercise. Not to mention the benefits accorded to bone and muscle density.

Also, you could make a few small changes in your mindset that will help go a long way.
- Park your car a few blocks away from your destination.
- Use the stairs instead of the lift.
- Do not always depend on the domestic help for household chores.
- Do not always use convenience machines like washing machine, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, food processor and so on.

That’s about it. Simple. Practical. And, above all, Miraculous! Try it. You have nothing to lose except your kilos.
