Ten Things to Keep Women in Style in the Summer
So! Global warming’s in! And what better time to understand that than in the Indian summer, huh ladies? Sweat, skin darkening, body odour and the relentless sun...ugh! And times are so busy now, you can’t even laze around because summer is here. Fighting through the sweat and grime, chores have to be finished. But would you want to lose your style quotient in the heat wave? No way, girls! Maintain your flair in the heat with these tips. Keep it light: Skin is sensitive in the summer. So, keep the jewellery light too. Metal can give your skin rashes and plastic could be toxic. Terracota is a good choice, as is wooden. My personal favourite is thread jewellery. They come in bright colours and are light too. Feet breathers: Sorry to pack up those ultra sexy boots? Don’t fret. Give your feet some air. When it comes to sandals there is no dearth of choice. Funky Hawaiis go with both pajamas and Afghan pants. And if you are wearing shorts or skirts in order to show off those great legs, compliment yourself with a pair of Roman or Greek sandals. My mom always recommended the Kohlapuri, so I never forget them when I wear a salwar kameez. They look cool with western wear too. Shield with shades: They come in all shapes and sizes, not to mention colours. They add instant style to your personality too. Then, why would you expose your eyes to the wrath of the sun? You can really go wild in your choice for sun glasses. You want huge look-at-me ones or I-am-cool-don’t-mess-with-me ones? Tressing up: So you shampooed your hair, straightened it and left the house feeling cool. But in the sweaty summer heat, your hair just stuck about your neck. Summer is the time to try out all those wild and fancy hair styles. The ones you didn’t follow in the winter because open hair looked better with your turtle necks. There are a gazillion designs for clutches and hair bands. If you have long hair, a high pony or a bun is always stylish. Skin umbrellas: It’s called Sun Protecting Factor, and it’s available in the market. Whatever degree you want—20, 30, 40 or 60. A sunscreen lotion or cream is a must in the Indian summer. It is the shining armour against the ultra violets. Plus, it makes a great subject for small talk when you’re standing in a queue with another gal. Deodorize: Keep smelling nice in the summer. It doesn’t bode well to have a body odour problem in today’s age when so many refreshing deodorants are available in the market. Not only does it turn off your colleagues and friends, it can bog down your confidence too. So, select a perfume that suits you best and keep it handy. Sip in style: Summer thirst can dehydrate your body. Well, don’t go scuttling around looking for water every hour. Just keep a sipper with you. There are some seriously adult looking sippers in the market now. Hide under: After skin umbrellas, comes the real one. Add to your femininity with an umbrella. There are so many colours and prints to choose from. Poised on your shoulder, trot about unharmed by direct sunlight, like a little geisha. Wipe it: Sweat is inevitable in the summer. But no need to display it in public. Keep a hanky with you to dab your face and neck from time to time, whenever you are caught without an AC. Cotton ones are best for the purpose. Bag your worries: Any college kid can tell you the benefits of a tote bag. They are economical, washable and foldable. They come in cotton, silk and a number of other fabrics. And they make you look funky. They hold a lot, which is something you need to do in the summer, what with your umbrella, sipper and your deodorant. When the means of beating the summer heat are so many and so chic, then why wouldn’t you do so? So, next time you go out in the sun, don’t frown at it. Look up at it and smile.
