Yes there is a marked development of biotech industry in the Indian market scenario. It is always seen in the human nature to run behind things which are novel and hot. If it is any new technology or a branch of study, it is going to attract many wise young minds. One such seedling that is growing at a high speed and rapidly taking its roots in the Indian sub continent today is a new technology which is also a field of scientific study. That is none other than the life science form which is widely known to the world today as biotechnology.

The clever biological science
Truly, the buzzword biotechnology can be referred to as ‘the clever biological science’, and the statement can be reasoned as follows.

Science refers to a body of knowledge ascertained by observation, experimentation, systemic and critical testing. On the other hand, technology refers to the applications of science to industry. Biotechnology is a biology based technology revolutionizing various fields like the food, medicine and agriculture, which are the basic requirements of any society. Therefore, biotechnology serves as a link between biological sciences, physical sciences and the technological achievements.

Current biotech scenario
As per the reports from various career counselors and educationalists biotech today looks like what the information technology appeared a couple of decades ago. Biotechnology and its industry has already developed extortionately in several other parts of the world and serving the population in the way possible through its most innovative research findings. It is now stupendously growing and spreading its flavor in India.

Every year nearly 300,000 degrees in the field are granted to many students all over the country, which indicates the increased demand and interest for the biotech studies in India, indicating a marked boom to the biotech industry. The demand for biotechnologists in a wide range of manufacturing and service industries is increasing because of their specialized expertise in biotechnological processes that reduce costs compared to traditional methods.

With well set goals to reach high targets, Indian biotech industry is rapidly rolling over to reach the fixed targets and offer a good competition to the IT sector of country. Industry watchers consider Indian biotech industry to be still young and full of potential to grow into a super power and occupy a well established place in the global biotech industry.

The problems facing biotech in India
Firstly, there’s the issue of early stage funding. Funding for the companies is the major problem for biotech growth in India. Even the global technology funds have not yet started funding the minor biotech startups in India. Adding more to this problem is no better opportunities for the fresher and no handsome pay for the experienced in the industry.

The second problem that is restricting the growth of industry is the ethical values of the society. In a democratic country like India, rich with its heritage and culture, any new technology can withstand and show its impact only if it has the public acceptance. But if the technology influences the ethics of the people, it turns out to be ephemeral. This is the major problem that impedes the development of biotech industry in our country today.

Misconceptions
Most people think that it is the IT companies are the drivers behind the economic emergence of India, but it is proved wrong in the most recent surveys conducted by various scientific associations. Also, there is a poor acceptance of the genetic engineering products in the country thinking them to be lethal for human consumption, which would hinder the development of the industry in India.

Despite the above mentioned problems and misconceptions, the biotech industry of India is booming and intensely increasing to develop. Biotechnologists in general, are in an unusually very fortunate position. They are now gaining access to funds and facilities that envy many other scientists and technologists. The development of the industry is turning out more rapid though there is so much of time gap between initiating the venture and manufacturing the novel product which is to be marketed. The biotech industry is now going to be a way of life instead of merely a scientific discipline because of its wide operations in the international market.
