In today's world, being overweight and becoming unattractive have become issues of serious concern. Most people are more interested in how to lose weight quickly than just how to lose weight. Weight loss pills or diet supplements are launched by various companies to combat obesity and excess weight. But do these weight loss pills really work?
A person is overweight when more body fat is accumulated in his/her body than is required for normal functioning of the body. The impact of being overweight is traumatic. Not only does a person look unattractive, he/she develops a lot of serious diseases, thus losing self-confidence. Excess weight is generally caused by over-eating, sedentary life styles, poor dietary habits, and stress. (You may also add heredity to this list.)
There is a range of weight loss pills available in the market, but these pills do not work in the same way for every person. This is because of the difference in the chemical make-up and physical constitution of every individual. Doctors prescribe these weight loss pills to those who have health related problems as a result of being overweight. The best solution to reduce weight is through a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Sibutramine and Orlistat are two commonly used weight loss drugs accepted by the FDA, although regular use of these drugs may have drastic side effects like diarrhea, bloating, insomnia and high blood pressure. Weight loss pills can, however, improve your general health and reduce weight if used in combination with a balanced healthy diet and regular exercise.
The success rate of these weight-loss pills varies. For some, these work like magic and become a dieter's dream. But, in many cases, the problem of excess weight resurfaces when these pills are discontinued. Weight loss pills do not replace the need for a healthy lifestyle with balanced food intake and physical activity. Weight loss pills help to reduce hunger pangs, and so, control the risk of overeating. The safety of taking these weight-reducing drugs on a long-term basis is highly questionable. Common weight-loss pills available in the market are so new that possible long-term side-effects (if any) are still unknown.
One needs to carefully study and evaluate the long-term consequences of taking weight loss pills. Consumption of weight reducing diet supplements without a doctor’s prescription may be dangerous!
Weight loss pills cannot be the one and only way to lose weight. When you consider taking these drugs, also keep in mind the need for a healthy diet and regular physical exercise. Weight loss pills are not magic wands, but they may be used as a tool to maintain reduced weight.
