Five Factors to Consider Before You Outsource Content Writing to India

Content writing companychillibreeze writerLaxmi Kasbekar

Thinking of outsourcing content writing to India? Cheap yet skilled manpower that is highly proficient in English is the main reason why most clients choose to outsource writing to India.

For many Indians, English is as good as their native language. So when you decide to outsource content writing to India you can rest assured your articles will be presented in a language that closely matches the language used by native English speakers.” You hear this all the time, right? But, how much of it is actually true?

Though a freelance content writer may be cheaper, here are five factors to consider when you outsource writing to India.

  • Easy accessibility of the content provider: The first thing to remember when you outsource content writing to India is the time difference between your native country and India. If you live in UK for instance, there is a time lag of 5.30 hours between India and UK. Do ask your content provider about their hours and whether they will be available when you need urgent work done, or revisions for that matter?
  • Cost vs. quality: Like every other client, your obvious aim is to get good quality at the best possible price. If you get an unbelievably low price quote from a freelancer or a content writing firm, consider contacting other providers. In some (not all) cases, low quotes might translate into low quality.
If you are working with a freelancer, ask for a sample. Freelance writers love to send you links to their blog but more often than not, the type of writing on the blog might be very different from what you are looking for. If you are working with a content writing company, compare their website with other competitors. Google the company’s (or freelancer’s) name so you get to know more about them. Once you make a careful, considered decision, you can relax in the knowledge that you are getting value for your money.
Generally, content companies have a vetting process before they let writers work on content projects. Plus, most of them have a QC process in place. But do not assume anything. Do ask your content provider whether they have an in-house editor.
  • Future support: What if you don’t like what you get? What if you have to hire an editor before you can use the content for your website? Before you outsource writing to India, find out if the content provider can offer to rework your article free of charge. Ask about their policy and the number of iterations they are willing to make.
  • Timely delivery: Whether you are outsourcing your work to India or work with a local freelancer in your home country, the project must be completed on time. A word of caution: Indians love to take holidays at the slightest pretext. Almost every month in India has three or four public holidays. Discuss this with the content writing company and ask them to send you a calendar of working days in advance. A reputed content development company will ensure that your project goes on smoothly, by having strict internal controls and a team of professional writers who adhere to strict timelines.
  • Reputation: Before you decide to outsource content writing to India, make sure you have a good idea of the reputation of your service provider. Always ask for references or testimonials.
