Our Story - Growing with Chillibreeze

James Syngai

James - Chillibreeze, Shillong

James Syngai DGM PowerPoint Group members
‘I had my interview with Ralph, our Director on a Monday afternoon in November 2005. I was told to come for training the next day and was accepted as a full time employee soon after. So I will complete 6 great years at Chillibreeze in a few months.’

‘Even though my academic background is not even remotely connected to what I am doing today, I have no regrets whatsoever. I came into Chillibreeze when the company itself was fairly new in Shillong. I use to think of myself as a “designer” but Joanna, one of our directors, showed me what a real designer is. After that the Arnold Group our first major client for PowerPoint came into the picture. Up until then, I had no idea what PPT really was but Joanna placed this challenge before me. I took up the challenge and thereafter grew from strength to strength. For about a year and a half I was a one-man “team”. But In Sep. 2006, we got in TPI as a client and as per their requirements we had to bring in 2 more people. That was when a real PowerPoint team came about. Over the years many people have come and gone but somehow I’ve managed to stay and continue to grow along with Chillibreeze. This year has been a most satisfying year. We were finally able to get Microsoft as our regular client and I also got appointed Deputy General Manager!’

A crucial turning point according to James
‘I think having the handbook was one of the most crucial decisions that our directors took. It introduced standards and professional norms of working. Prior to that, everyone was doing their own thing. The introduction of the handbook forced all of us to look differently at how we work; we all had to adhere to certain standards or risk facing the axe.’

About working at Chillibreeze he says
‘I think the expectations, of the Directors as well as the clients, made me change my perspective about work. The work pressure is unending but I have been fortunate enough to be working with a great set of people. The financial incentive at Chillibreeze is also a factor that motivates me. But I truly enjoy every aspect of my work too – right from formatting PPTs or other documents to taking administrative decisions to or lending a helping hand to any of the team members – I love it all.’

Sainbor Kharbithai

Sainbor – Chillibreeze, Shillong

Sainbor Kharbithai, Manager of the Graphic Design Group is another old timer at Chillibreeze – he’s been with the company for over 6 years now.

Sainbor remembers the time when Chillibreeze first started out
‘Electricity in Shillong is very unstable and we did not have proper power backup. During load shedding we had to run two noisy, smelly red petrol generators. We faced major issues with the internet as well. ‘

But it all changed when
‘In the year, 2008 we moved to STPI (Software Technology Park of India). That was a great milestone for Chillibreeze and for all the staff. STPI has contributed a great deal towards the smooth running of the company. Among other things we now have 24x7 internet and power supply.’

About working at Chillibreeze and the team in Shillong Sainbor says
‘Working together as a team towards a common goal gives us a strong sense of purpose and fulfilment. The HR department plays crucial role in building a strong sense of team spirit with the organisation.’

‘I also really enjoy many of the events and activities organised for Chillbreeze employees here at Shillong. We have several activities like picnics, eat outs, sports events that are great fun and bring us together helping to build the team spirit. The job is demanding and challenging but it also brings out the best in me – I can give full expression to creative talents. These things make Chillibreeze a truly great place to work for!’
