About the story/author:
Bonnie told this story when she was seven years old. The story first came about when her father, Ralph, saw a red panda bear while hiking in a forest of Shillong, North East India.
Her father looked up bears on the internet only to verify that it was indeed a red panda bear he saw.

That experience connected with our family visit to the Shillong zoo. There Bonnie was struck with sadness when she saw the brown bear caged up in very poor conditions. She wanted so badly for something to happen to give the bear a better life.

She wants you to know that two years later the brown bear at the Shillong Zoo was finally moved to a much better and bigger zoo and no longer lives in the poor conditions. In “real life” this story does indeed have a happy ending.
