Best Neighborhoods to Live in Near Indus School, Whitefield ITPL

Q: I came across your very informative and often humorous answers to expat questions in the Chillibreeze website. I will be relocating to Bangalore around end of June. I have 2 daughters both of whom are enrolled to join Indus Intl school next year. I thought I read your kids go to Indus too? I am trying to find best places to live in Bangalore, based on easy commute by school bus to Indus and for a easy commute to ITPL/Whitefield area. Would you mind sharing some apartment communities that are in the Indus school bus route and are within a easy commutable distance?

A: Why, thank you! It’s nice to get compliments on newsletters written a while ago. Yes, my kids go to Indus and like you we too needed to balance the school vs ITPL commute. Frankly, I was willing to sacrifice my husband’s commute time, if it would make the kids’ commute easier, and I asked the school to email me the bus routes. With that in hand, with all the stops that were within 30 to 40 minutes of the school, I hit the realtors. I found that Whitefield was about that, maybe 45 minutes, but then, and perhaps now, Whitefield worked best for those who were content with life within their gated community. If you wanted to go out for a quick dinner, needed an emergency run to the book store (and you’d be surprised how often that happens) Whitefield was and is still a little remote. Although in the last year a mall and a couple of chain supermarkets like Big Bazaar and M.K. Retail have opened branches in Whitefield, you do hear expats discussing the drive “into town”. So I picked the Sarjapur Road area, where the rapidly mushrooming apartments have meant the simultaneous mushrooming of stores and malls. Not only that, Koramangala with its access to piano lessons, the children’s library, and other necessities of child rearing is only a few kilometers away. I have listed some of the popular housing communities in the article, so hopefully you should find something that works for you.
