Chillibreeze Interview with Sumitra Senapathy
1. Please tell us about yourself. I am a hotelier by profession, who joined the print media and later my passion for travel made me into a travel writer for a number of years. I wanted to share my passion with like minded women through an all women travel platform exclusively for women. After loads of hesitation, I started the WOW Club, and today it is the soul of my life! I dream, breathe and live travel! I have shared my dreams with many women and in fact have made their dreams possible to a great extent! 2. You are the founder of WOW (Women of Wanderlust) - tell us more about your travel club. Yes, I am the founder of WOW club. This club is for like-minded women who are passionate about travel and are cosmopolitan in their outlook. We on our part are transparent, honest, and give very personalized service, and do not make the groups large – giving enough chance for the travellers to connect with each other, and discover friendship. Group travel ensures good value for money, security, and no exorbitant single occupancy rates.
As a travel writer, I used to travel all around the world, and women often told me how lucky I was and they would love to travel to exotic and unusual destinations if their concerns could be taken care of by an organization that would be honest, understand their needs, take care of security, and give door step service. I could see the passion in them and decided to provide this platform that addresses each of these factors. 4. How has this concept been received? Can you tell us more about the profile you cater to? Like a spark among dry grass! The profile is cosmopolitan, higher middle class, passion for travel, age group of mainly 35 to 65, financially and mentally emancipated women.
I am sure solo travellers face difficulties. But there is no difficulty faced by women who travel in groups with us because we take care of all their needs, provide door step service, ensure that we deliver what we promise by sending a WOW buddy with each group and plan the trips to not-so-common destinations, the destinations that are not done by most of the Indian tour operators. 6. Tell us something about your achievements. What is the best recognition you have received till date with regard to WOW The best recognition I have received is the acknowledgement of WOW women travellers. And then there are Time magazine, USA, Wall street journal, USA, Khaleej times, Middle East, and all the leading newspapers of this country, who have recognized our presence and activities. 7. What would you recommend for those who are waiting to make a break through as entrepreneurs? Any tip or piece of advice for them? Pursue only that about which you are passionate, believe in yourself and don’t give up! 8. Do you enjoy writing? What do you write about? I enjoy writing on travel and life style topics.
