Chillibreeze Interview with Nishi Roy
1. Congratulations on being among the top 3 winners of the Chillibreeze 2nd Quarter Article Writing Contest. How does it feel? What was your immediate reaction to it? It feels wonderful, to be appreciated and acknowledged. My immediate reaction was one of joy and I did find it unbelievable because honestly I was not even aware that I was being considered. 2. How did you discover Chillibreeze? What made you choose to submit an interview in lieu of the sample article? It is thanks to a dear friend that I discovered Chillibreeze. In fact, she has always spoken very highly of this writers’ platform. I chose to submit an interview instead of an article as my sample work, because I enjoy conducting interviews and thus getting to know more about the person and his or her vision. 3. Tell us something about the interview with Kapil Sharma of SayTrees that you submitted. Have you participated in the tree planting drives organised by Saytrees? No, but having spent my childhood in the leafy environs of a small township, I know how much these trees add to one’s emotional and physical wellbeing – this is one of the most important reasons why I chose Saytrees in my interview feature. While I have not participated in a tree-planting drive per se, I certainly do my bit in greening my surroundings on a continuous basis.
Yes, I started my career in the hospitality industry and then moved on to writing. I firmly believe it is this multiple industry experience that has honed my skills to perceive and understand and thus write better on diverse topics like retail, movies or relationships. One of my most important learnings has been, that no matter which industry you are in, stay interested and keep the passion to learn alive; it is important to unlearn and re-learn so that one does not become complacent and jaded.
Writing assignments are through various platforms - Chillibreeze, word-of-mouth references through friends and other social-media podiums. Yes, I have had some bad experiences. One important aspect that a freelance writer should be careful about is that if the employer is not forthcoming with information about where they operate from, or are unwilling to share website details of where your article may be featured, or say even the remuneration details, etc, then she/he should be careful, for chances of being duped are very high. 6. Any issues that you feel strongly about? My philosophy in life is live and let live, for I am not one of those to sit on a high pedestal of morality and pass-value judgements on others. But having said so, as a thinking citizen issues like environment, civic-amenities and gender-related issues are some subjects that I feel strongly about. 7. Is there anything else you would like to tell us? Something that will surprise our readers?
The last question brought a wide smile and a twinkle to my eyes. Something that may surprise readers; well, who knows, I may surprise myself and the readers one day by finally penning the novel which I have been procrastinating about and hit the jackpot!
