Happy New Year to all our readers!

We hope 2009 has kicked off to a great start for all of you. Here at Chillifreeze, the first half of January has already seen two brand new initiatives take off in Delhi & Mumbai. Our inaugural Write Meets met with tremendous response from writers and are an indicator of the power of the network of freelance writers. 2009 promises to be a power packed year with more offline events like workshops, meetings and conferences lined up for you!

We bring you our regular features like our interview of the month. This month we introduce you to Abha Iyengar. Also read the special featured article by Mariam Noronha on Networking during a Recession.

Write Meet Delhi
4th January 2009


The inaugural Chillifreeze Write Meet was held at the Defence Services Officer's Institute in Delhi and was attended by 24 writers despite the bitter winter cold!

Write Meet Delhi

Guest speaker Mridula Murgai, a freelance writer and the editor and originator of the first website for Indian Women spoke about 'Writing for Women'. Reena Batra's presentation on Wellness and Peace of mind was very well received. Abha Iyengar's Reading of her Flash Fiction pieces led to a lively discussion on flash fiction vs. other genres of writing. Mohinder Bhatnagar's humorous piece wrapped up the reading sessions on a lively note. A sneak peek into 2009 plans by Priya Kaushik had the writers come up with questions and feedback. A spot contest saw writer Lubinisha Saha bag a Crossword Bookstore gift voucher of Rs 500 for her winning tagline. The enthusiastic response from Delhi based writers was overwhelming with many requesting similar events to be organized on a regular basis.

Write Meet Mumbai
11th January 2009


Mumbai saw a resounding response to its first Write Meet, with nearly 30 writers at the event, including many who travelled from as far as Pune to attend.

Gayathri Thakoor's talk - My 'Children's Most Wanted' generated discussions on children, imagination and the power of illustration. Kavitha Rao's reading session soon transformed into a buzzing Q&A session with writers keen to get tips from this seasoned and well known writer on pitching to magazines, getting paid and getting noticed by editors. Sheela Jaywant's discussion on her published works and self publishing options brought on a number of questions as writers swapped marketing tips and ideas. The event wrapped up with a feedback session and questions on Chillibreeze and Chillifreeze. Rajeshwar Singh, winner of our tagline contest bagged a Rs 500 Crossword gift voucher. Writers expressed a desire to have events like workshops and courses conducted in the city.

Writer Interview: Abha Iyengar


Meet writer Abha Iyengar an internationally published writer and poet. She is a Kota Press Poetry Anthology contest winner. Her work has appeared in several anthologies, magazines and literary journals, both in print and online, such as the Chicken Soup series, Citizen32, Arabesques Review, M.A.G., Dead Drunk Dublin and others. She is very committed to education, especially of women and children.
