How do I pay?
Many content providers in India do not have access to the ecommerce service providers that you may be familiar with, like Paypal (which requires an American bank account.). However there are other options of payment which make transactions easy.
You may pay
- by credit card (several Indian banks have tie-ups with American banks)
- by PayPal as some companies offer PayPal on their website
- by check, however the money takes 20 days to be credited.
- by wire transfer (this costs an extra $30-50 per transaction
- by Western Union Money Transfer – if the amount is lower than
$500. This enables you to pay in dollars and the vendor can realise the money in Indian rupees
When do I pay?
You will generally have to pay 50% of the agreed amount for the project upfront, before the project commences, and 50% on delivery. Content providers will make 2-3 revisions in their work until you are satisfied with the end product.
The best way to avoid risk is to limit deliverables and payments to small chunks until trust, quality and reliability are established. A sample project is a common way of testing before entering into an SLA (Service Level Agreement).
