Lesson 5: What is the style of Indian writers writing in English

Due to the colonial influence of the British, Indians are well-versed with British English, but their wide exposure to American TV serials and movies has made them familiar with American English too.
If you are an American, you may find that the Indian style of writing English can be more formal and wordy. It may help to prepare some writing guidelines and request some modification in style. Setting the language of the word processor to American spelling takes care of consistency in spelling.
In spite of this, expect to edit or tweak the final work according to the target audience. This may be required when more creative writing is outsourced as cultural nuances may appear more often.
In addition there are some very minor differences in grammar that repeatedly occur in Indian writing. Chillibreeze is in the process of preparing some short guidelines to help globalize our writers so that they can see these differences.
