1. Medical Tourism to Drive the Tourism Industry in India
The growth in India's medical tourism industry seems to be the main source that is bringing in more foreign exchange in the country. The inexpensive treatments that India offers to foreign patients seems to be the most significant reason for India being one of the key players in the field of medical tourism. Promotion of medical tourism, along with the combined efforts of the hospitality industry, the state government, travel agents and local folk can help incite the growth of tourism in India. According to Abhijeet Patil, Raja Rani Health Alliance: "Medical tourism is one of the most lucrative industry as it is anticipated to attract tourists from world over especially the UK, South Africa, Canada and Malaysia, and is expected to grow into a $1.5 billion industry by 2010."
To promote medical tourism in India, the country’s tourism office “Incredible India” has convinced the govt. to launch a medical tourist visa. This would allow patients to stay in the country for a year, which can be extended to three provided the trip involves major operations or some other medical procedure. Added Patil: "With increasing number of medical tourists coming to India, tour operators have immense opportunities to grab their own share of financial profits by way of fee-based agreements with the hospitals." Investments in Medical Tourism
1. Spurred by UAE investments, Kerala govt woos further FDI
Investments from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have contributed largely to Kerala's LeftDemocratic Front government in launching a coordinated effort to attract more foreign direct investments (FDI). Kerala has been lagging behind as compared to many other states in India in terms of the FDI, inspite of being the largest recipient of allowances from NRKs (Non-Resident Keralites). Remittances consist of about 22 per cent of Kerala's domestic product.
It is expected that the FDI will give Kerala the much-needed boost that it needs in the industrial front. Kerala's industrial growth has remained tardy and much below average despite it's continuing efforts to make it investor-friendly. Friday, May 25, 2007

1. Medical Tourism Opportunities in India
Over the past year (2006), India has seen more and more medical travellers visiting India for all sorts of medical treatments. The approximate number of global patients that 2006 saw was around 150,000. The country now has the potential to brag about it's many top notch hospitals and facilities that are second to none. Medical tourism companies such as Health Line have come up with several packages - the packages including holidays and hotel stays during their travel. The other attractions include airport pick-up, meetings with doctors post and pre-surgery etc. Such travel companies show international patients the potential of medical tourism and how much can be saved. Doctors are never hesitant about making patients feel comfortable, and are more than willing to answer all queries through medical tourism companies. The best part is, with the introduction of the medical visa, travelling abroad has now been made easier. When the medical visa expires, it can easily be extended to upto three years. But it is most imperative that one does not forget to include his/her medical reports before travelling to India. Monday, May 21, 2007
