How does the Writing/Editing Project Board work? We encourage prospects to post projects on the forum. How does your system work?

Step 1: You become a Chillibreeze published writer

• You register via the writers’ form (You have done that already).
• You choose a few topics for your sample article or even interview a subject matter expert on any topic (For topics, visit our sample topic page) and send them to us (at writers @ chillibreeze dot com)
• We pick a topic from these for you to write on.
• You send us your sample article.
• Our in-house editor rates your sample.
• If your sample is accepted, it is edited and published on our website. You immediately become a part of our writers’ network, even before your sample is published on one of our websites. Take a look at the benefits.

Is Chillibreeze one of those sites where you bid on client projects?

Yes, in a way. But ours is a niche website for writers and editors. And you get to showcase yourself by publishing on our website. If you are really good you may get offers from Chillibreeze, too.

How much can I make?

No guarantees! Chillibreeze opens a window for you to showcase yourself and build your career as a freelance writer/editor. We have writers getting as much as Rs. 20,000 and more a month to those who earn less than Rs. 1,000 a month.

I registered because I am interested in editing, not writing. What can you offer me?

If you are interested in editing for us, let us know (at writers @ chillibreeze dot com). We can send you our editing test. If you have ample experience in editing, you do not have to take the test.

We are always looking for experienced editors, so there is a good chance you will receive a project, especially if you ace the editing test.

But why do I have to write a free sample? I have worked as a writer for more than ten years and I know my way around. I think my resume speaks for itself!

When you write a sample, we get it edited and rated by our in-house editor(s). The amount of editing needed on your sample before it is published gives us a good indication of how much editing would be needed when you work on a real project. This is a formula that has worked for the past seven years.

We do understand that some of you might have extraordinary profiles. However, we have had some bitter experiences where we got writers on board for projects without asking for a sample. It turned out they were not as good as their resumes projected them to be. Getting published on our website is an indicator that your writing skills are above average.

How do I pick a topic for my sample?

Here is our list of sample topics. Pick a few topics from the categories you see on the sample topics page and email us at writers @ chillibreeze dot com. We will assign one of them for you to write on. You can even choose to interview a subject matter expert in any category you see on our sample topics page!

What happens after I write a sample? Do I get a project?

Writing a sample article is not enough by itself. If the article/ interview is published, your email id is added to our published writers’ network. This works like a screening process, but does not guarantee a project immediately.

Why do I have to write a sample? Why can’t I send you links to my work online?

Our website has a very high Google ranking. Your unpublished article will go through a round of editing and evaluation by professional editors and can be used as a showcase while bidding for projects posted on the Chillibreeze job board.

How do I benefit by writing a sample?

Getting your article published on our website with a good rating gives you credibility and exposure. You could use the article on our site as a sample for other projects. Chillibreeze pages are ranked high on Google and being published here will enhance your portfolio. In addition, we add value to your sample article by having our in-house editor edit and refine it.

If your article/interview is chosen to be published on Chillibreeze, you get a 50% discount code to use on any product or service at our store! This is our way of helping nurture your writing talent.

You may get some of the project offers we send out from time to time and will have access to our job/project board. Several clients post their requirements on the job board. This means an opportunity to apply to a host of writing assignments. Check out the other benefits as well.

Do I have to keep writing free samples for Chillibreeze to earn money? I did that for a few other sites and they never paid me anything.

No! We ask for just one sample in the beginning so we can rate you as a writer and to see if we can publish your article on our website. After that, it is up to you how you market yourself and get projects.

Tell me more about the sample article. Are there any rules?

Sample article specifications: The number of words can be between 500 and 1500. But we are not as stringent about the number of words as we are about the content quality and originality. Please try to send us the article within 5-10 days of being assigned the topic. These are the things we look for in samples:

• Compelling subject
• Clean and simple style
• Useful content
• Well formatted text
• Web-friendly copy
• Plagiarism-free content
• Proper references for quotes and data from other sources

Here is a sample of a well written piece. Like we mentioned above, if you know a subject matter expert on any category posted on our sample topics page, you can even interview them and submit it in lieu of a sample article. Before you start writing, please send the topic you have chosen to writers @ chillibreeze dot com so we can approve it.

Can I submit something I have published elsewhere…like on my blog?

Your sample must be unpublished and original. We do not accept samples that are already published elsewhere or ones that have sentences/paragraphs directly borrowed from other articles. We have a strict original content policy.

Our original content policy: We do not accept content that has been published on other websites. We use a powerful plagiarism detection tool and have a strict anti-plagiarism policy. Anything you write for Chillibreeze or its customers must be original. Writers who plagiarize on customer projects are immediately blacklisted. So we recommend you never use any line directly from any other source.

Who is the target audience?

Readers from all over the world. We get web traffic from the US, India, Europe, Australia…the list goes on. So your writing needs to be global.

Do not use ‘Indian English’, long drawn sentences or flowery language. We are looking for simple yet effective and insightful content that can be appreciated by all visitors.

What happens once I submit my article?

Once your sample is approved, rated and edited, we will publish it on our website. You will become a Chillibreeze published writer and a part of our network. We will publish your article with your photo and byline on our site or an associated website. We have an original content policy, so please make sure you do send us articles that have not been published elsewhere.

While you wait to hear from us, browse the writers’ section of our website and make use of the numerous resources we have for writers.

Want to connect with other writers and editors while you wait? Visit our forums, interact with fellow writers, and participate in contests, discussions and more.

What if my sample is rejected?

If your sample does not meet our website’s quality standards, you are free to use the sample anywhere else. Of course, you will not get the tag of ‘Chillibreeze published writer’.

If you would like a second chance to prove your abilities, you can take one of our writing and editing assessment tests. The higher you score on the assessments, the better. The assessments will not only help you become a part of the Chillibreeze published writers’ network and enhance your resume, but also tell you where you stand with respect to other Indian writers. Taking them might be a great way to evaluate yourself and hone your skills.

Why can’t I see my article online?

Because of the high volume of articles we receive, it sometimes takes around a month for your sample articles to get published. But when you send us your sample, we rate you and add your email id to our mailing list almost immediately.

I would like detailed feedback on my sample. How can I get that?

We have a service designed just for you. Check out our Expert Review Services. Writers get a detailed and confidential review of their article along with suggestions for improvement.

Do you offer certification or other ways to enhance my resume?

We have writing, editing and proofreading assessments to test and rate your skills. We analyze every paragraph of your submission and provide a comprehensive assessment of your skills. While applying for a project or job, you can also have your transcript sent directly from Chillibreeze to clients and potential employers. This will add credibility to your portfolio.
