In one of our Customer Success Stories, Todd Orwig, Director of Operations of The Spur Group, mentioned –
Chillibreeze has proven to be our behind the scenes graphics partner and a reason we win repeat business
Todd’s remark says it all. When it comes to Corporate presentations, visual communication should never be taken for granted. It is a vital element in business.
With that in mind, we asked our presentation design experts-
What would you pick if I asked you to point one task that ALWAYS & NEVER FAILS to add zing to a slide?
Make no mistake, these fail-proof tips are what we in Chillibreeze also practice daily. Now, adding a zing to your PowerPoint Presentation is no longer a secret.
Here are their answers and some great visual communication tips to enhance presentations in a jiffy.
Presentation Design Experts Speak to You
1. Simplistic functionality.
Clean | Sharp | Simple | Uncluttered
Majority of the slides that we build are used as visual aids by the presenter. Simplistic functionality on the slides translates to clear communication of the message(s). If the slides are too cluttered, then the presenter will not only have to explain the concept of the slide but the clutter as well!
How ironic is that?
So, no jazzy designs that do zilch when it comes to visual communication. Contrary to popular notions, simplicity rules. No wonder, this rule topped our internal survey.
The image below shows the difference between clutter and simplicity.
Cut the clutter. Choose a simple, clean and sharp design that communicates visually.
2. Neat Alignment
Aligning (and I don't mean just left/right/top/bottom alignment) everything on the slide never fails. By alignment, I mean how we neatly organize all the different elements on the slide
Proper alignment, as we mentioned in an earlier post, gives the slide and the overall deck a clean, well-formatted look. This tip from James who heads our presentation services department stands testimony to it.
Notice how neat the well-aligned look of the slide on the right, in contrast to a poorly aligned one.
Zing to a slide that never fails? Correct color combination. To me when I look at the slides, color is the one aspect that can ruin or beautify the look of a slide
What’s a deck without a tasteful play of colors? From branding to aesthetics, choosing the right color is all it takes to give an edge to your presentation. Take Sissy’s word for it.
So choose your color palette carefully, because choosing the right color for your slides matter!
4. A little action with Animation
In my opinion, animation makes the slide interesting and adds a punch to the presentation.
A little action and animation never hurt a deck. That is all it takes to make that all-important slide pop (pun unintended) in a presentation. So says Jeneson who has been the man behind the success of many a presentation that comes to Chillibreeze.
5. No Hanging Words
No hanging words in the headline... this comes from my graphic design days... No orphans and widows. But for PowerPoint, I strongly feel the same rule applies: a hanging word in a headline is a detail that can kill the zing of a slide.
Hanging words are a big NO when it comes to slide titles. Did you notice how hanging words affect the slide below?
The icing on the cake, the comment from Ralph, CEO Chillibreeze, that neatly sums it all up for us.
When I look at a slide and I get the message, then the designer has succeeded.
Everything said and done, it is mission accomplished if a presentation deck or slide visually communicates the message you wanted to convey.
Few easy tips and some imagination is all it takes to give your slides the WOW impact! Let us know how this worked for you.
