Beyond My Role: How Contribution Shaped My Growth at Chillibreeze
From History Graduate to Admin Associate: A New Beginning
When I joined Chillibreeze, I didn’t fully understand what “contribution beyond
your role” meant. At that time, I had just transitioned from a very different path.
I graduated with a B.A. in History, spent years preparing for competitive exams, and even worked as a frontline volunteer during the COVID-19 pandemic in Mizoram. That experience taught me compassion and service, but when I joined Chillibreeze as an Admin trainee, I stepped into an entirely new world that would redefine what contribution truly means.
What “Beyond Your Role” Really Means at Chillibreeze
In the beginning, I was simply trying to do my job well. I wanted to learn quickly, meet expectations, and adapt to the discipline that Chillibreeze is known for.
But soon, I realized that Admin wasn’t just about doing tasks; it was about enabling others. Every request completed, every problem solved, and every system improved created an impact that rippled across the company. That understanding became the foundation for how I began contributing beyond my role.
Small Acts, Big Impact
At first, I didn’t even realize I was stepping beyond it. There were gaps that needed to be filled, small things here and there that didn’t fall under my direct responsibility. Sometimes it was helping HR with coordination, other times assisting with petty cash or handling communication for Marketing. I just saw a need and stepped in. This was possible only because our company provides an environment where if one sees an opportunity to add value to any other department you can do so, with the permission of their seniors. Slowly, those small actions became part of who I was at work.
Over time, I found myself drawn to challenges that pushed me further out of my comfort zone. One of the biggest milestones in my journey was when I was asked to help supervise the first-ever Service Mastery Program (SMP) in Aizawl. It was completely new territory for me, managing time, people, and responsibilities beyond my core function. I remember feeling nervous but also excited. I wanted to prove that I could rise to the occasion.

Learning Through Experience, Not Just Training
Those weeks taught me more than any formal training could. There were times I struggled to balance my Admin work with the added responsibilities that I had voluntarily taken on. There were moments when
I wanted to do everything myself, thinking that was what ownership meant. But slowly, I learned that contribution is not about carrying all the weight alone. It’s about collaboration, trusting others, sharing knowledge, and creating an environment where everyone can perform their best.
From Doing More to Doing What Matters Most
That mindset shift was powerful. I started seeing how being proactive and open-minded created opportunities for growth, not just for me, but for the people I worked with. Whenever I shared what I learned or helped someone solve a problem, it built confidence and connection. I went from being the “go-to person” who handled many things alone to someone who empowered others to take initiative too.
Collaboration Over Control
This experience made me realize how easy it is to get stuck in the idea that “this is my role” and limit ourselves. Once I stopped thinking that way, I began to see every challenge as a chance to grow. Whether it was learning something new about HR, understanding financial systems, helping with events, or guiding others, each task built new skills and broadened my perspective.
Time Management and Smart Work
Time management became one of my biggest challenges. I had to learn how to prioritize, plan, and balance multiple things at once without losing focus on my core responsibilities. There were moments of stress, but also moments of pride when things came together because I learned to work smarter, not just harder.
Aligning Personal Purpose with Company Vision
Being part of the 90/10 Cultural Catalyst program deepened that growth even more. It helped me understand how to live out the principles, values, and behaviors that define Chillibreeze. It taught me that contribution is not just about output; it’s about mindset, being intentional, accountable, and willing to serve where needed. I began to see how my personal goals aligned with the company’s purpose: to transform lives and create value. That alignment gave my work a deeper meaning.

How Contribution Changed Me
Looking back, I see how much I’ve changed. When I joined, I used to think that contribution was about doing more. Now I know it’s about doing what matters most with excellence, care, and purpose. I used to be more closed-minded, focused only on what I was assigned. Today, I approach my work with a sense of ownership and humility, knowing that every small action contributes to something bigger.
Contributing beyond my role has helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect. It made me more adaptable, disciplined, and self-aware. I learned to communicate better, to lead with empathy, and to see challenges as opportunities for growth. It taught me that being valuable isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being willing to learn, help, and create value wherever you can.
Contribution as a Way of Life
One of the most fulfilling parts of this journey is seeing how my contribution now extends beyond tasks. It’s in mentoring teammates, sharing lessons, or simply showing up with a positive attitude that keeps the team motivated. I’ve learned that contribution isn’t a one-time act; it’s a daily choice.
What We Can Be, We Must Be
From being a frontline volunteer to becoming part of Chillibreeze, my purpose has always been rooted in service. The only difference is that now, I understand that contribution can happen anywhere, in an office, in a conversation, or in how we choose to show up every day.
Chillibreeze gave me the space to rediscover that purpose and the courage to keep growing. ’Who we can be we must be’ is a rallying cry of my company and that is what I aim for. Every challenge, every project, and every small act of support has shaped me into someone more capable, more grounded, and more aligned with what truly matters.
Today, I can say with confidence that contributing beyond my role didn’t just help me grow as an employee; it helped me grow as a person. It reminded me that we all have something valuable to offer, and when we choose to give that little extra, it creates a ripple effect that goes far beyond our job titles.
