Discovering My Contribution at Chillibreeze: The Start of My Journey

My name is Salesian Sangma, and I completed my Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering from Shillong Polytechnic. Back then, I imagined pursuing further studies and becoming a fine engineer.
But life had other plans. I needed to support my family and couldn’t wait for the perfect opportunity. At that point, my choice was simple: apply or not apply?

I applied to Chillibreeze, not for an IT role, but for Limitless Farm. The work involved growing vegetables, herbs and fruits; rearing goats; and handling other farm tasks. It had nothing to do with what I had studied, but I was willing.

During the Inspire Course, which is a foundational programme for all those short-listed as potential hires, a surprise came my way:
Inspire Course Moderator said, "You have another interview with the IT team."

That moment filled me with joy and excitement. wondering what it was about...

A New World: Reality Hits Hard

I entered the IT room with excitement, but soon reality hit. This wasn’t the kind of IT I had imagined. Instead of coding or networking works, I was introduced to Power BI and Business Central, tools that I had never even heard of. Even within the company, Power BI was new, and they were midway through implementation and innovating how we display reports.

Everything I worked on was unfamiliar and challenging. But with a “can-do” attitude, I took it step by step and kept learning. It was the trust and beliefs of the company in me that enabled me to go beyond what I never thought I could do.

What started as me struggling with unknown tools turned into something the whole company relies on today. The reports and dashboards I create provide dynamic, visualized information that adds value to every team.

But at one point, I caught myself thinking: “Is this all I’m meant for? Is this the ceiling?”

Beyond IT: Opportunities to Add Value

Being in a principle-driven company, I also got the opportunity to lead sessions on Principles our company believes in, that help the team reflect on what we believe and why we do what we do. These moments go beyond technical skills, they build clarity, alignment, and purpose within the team.

The best part is that in Chillibreeze we’re not limited to our roles. We can go beyond wherever we must, because our company believes in: “Who we can be, we must be.”

One recent example was when I collaborated with the HR team during a walk-in interview at Garo Hills. My role was to help coordinate people for the interviews, something totally outside my IT work.

In a company that believes in “Thinking like a CEO,” individuals like me get to discover potential we never knew existed.

What I’ve Learned

My journey at Chillibreeze has taught me that contribution isn’t about starting with all the right skills. It’s about being alert to opportunities that can add value to the customers/the company/the employees, and if it interests you, then showing up with the right attitude, embracing challenges, and trusting the process.

From almost joining a farm team to becoming part of IT innovation, and from building dashboards to helping HR coordinate interviews, I’ve realized this:

That we humans can do far more than what we planned for, provided we are in the right mindset, culture, and environment.

Here, in this company, I’m not just learning skills, I’m discovering who I can become.
