First Step and First Rejection: Building Character

Armed with a degree in Visual Communication and some work experience in animation and motion graphics, I first applied to Chillibreeze for the position of Multimedia Designer. I thought I stood a good chance. To my surprise, my application was rejected.

Later, I learned why: Chillibreeze doesn’t hire based on impressive résumés—it hires for character.

A New Opportunity: Embracing Growth

Still hopeful, I applied again. This time, the multimedia role was brand new, and to my luck, I got a call for the first-round interview. I wore my best attire and walked into the office with high hopes and an open mind. I remember being blown away by the infrastructure, especially the tiny cabins. During that interview, Irisha from the HR team, who is now my lovely colleague, said something that stayed with me:

“In Chillibreeze, you might come for one role, but you could be placed in another department depending on your contribution.”

Unlocking Opportunities through Contribution

Irisha’s words intrigued me. It made me realize that growth here was not about fitting into and discovering potential through effort and curiosity.

Soon after, I was selected for the Inspire Course, a 10-day introduction to what it really takes to be in Chillibreeze. It was intensive, expectations were high, and values were constantly tested. I had never seen a company recruit in this way, and I was deeply impressed.

I gave it my all, scheduling my days, meeting deadlines, contributing to discussions, and pushing myself beyond comfort. Slowly, team members began noticing my potential. After the Inspire Course, I was offered a role in the Marketing team.

At first, I wondered…why marketing? But I trusted the recruiters’ ability to see what I couldn’t see in myself. That’s how my marketing journey began.

Personal and Professional Growth at Chillibreeze

Over the next year, I dove deep into learning strategy, messaging, funnels, and business needs. It was exhilarating and challenging. What surprised me most was how much this growth impacted my personal life too. For the first time, I realized that businesses aren’t inherently “evil”. They can actually enable human flourishing and economic growth in communities. The more curious and open I became, the more opportunities I saw around me.

Spotting Gaps and Making a Contribution

One year later, while working on recruitment marketing, I found myself digging deeper into our internal systems. I noticed gaps and challenges, and to my surprise, my observations were recognized. Serendipitously, I was offered a new role in HR, leading a function that directly solved the problem I had been seeing.

This shift was intimidating. The role was bigger, scarier, and more challenging than anything I had taken on before. But Chillibreeze believed in me, even more than I believed in myself. That trust gave me the courage to step forward.

My journey here has taught me this: Chillibreeze is a place where people see more in you than you see in yourself. Growth doesn’t come from comfort, it comes from responsibility and challenge. It has never been easy, but it has always been worth it.

Here, I’ve been challenged to think deeply, not just about my work, but about who I am becoming. Reflection, honesty, and curiosity have been my biggest tools. The rest has been failing, learning, and growing.
