My name is Ethungbeni T. Ovung, and I graduated in Computer Science and Applications, so I always thought my career would align with that field. In fact, when I first joined Chillibreeze, it was as a Graphic Designer, since I believed that would be the best fit for my background. But life had other plans. Today, I’m in HR, a role I never expected but one that has shaped my growth in surprising and meaningful ways.

I want to share a little more about my journey here at Chillibreeze because it’s a story that embodies what it truly means to discover your contribution.

Facing Reality: When Passion Meets Reality

Even though I got selected for the services department (Graphic Design) and was in training for 2 months, during almost every Saturday check-in with the trainers, I found myself in tears because my performance would always be marked red. Deep down, I could feel that it wasn’t working out the way I had hoped. I had to confront a tough truth. My skills and this role weren’t aligned, at least not yet.

Choosing Openness Over Titles

That was the moment I realized something crucial. My desire to be part of Chillibreeze went far beyond a title or a role. I reached out to Ralph, our CEO, Irisha, the Head of Training Department, and others, sharing that I was open to trying something different. I wanted to contribute, no matter the role, and that openness became the first step toward discovering my true contribution.

Either I get Appointed, or They’ll Have to Coach Me Out.

Eventually, I got the chance to move into HR as the Inspire Course Coordinator. Even then, I struggled to meet expectations. I felt stuck, frustrated, and sometimes ready to give up. But deep inside, I kept reminding myself:

'That mindset of choosing to fight, to persist, to adapt, is what defines the essence of contribution at Chillibreeze. It’s not about passion alone. It’s about responding to the needs around you and striving to create impact, no matter your starting point.'

Finding My Comparative Advantage: Where Need Meets Ability

The real turning point came with the HR Admin and Compliance role. Here, I could see the team’s needs clearly and recognize where I could add value. This is where I experienced what we call Comparative Advantage in action. I saw a gap and stepped in where I could make a difference. From that moment, things started to click. I’m truly thankful to Nafissa our Senior Leader for seeing that need and trusting me to fill it because that trust allowed me to identify my contribution, and I felt a sense of inner joy.

Growth Through Challenges: Building Empathy and Confidence

Looking back now, I see that every challenge, every moment of doubt, was part of the journey to discovering where I could truly add value. It’s helped me develop empathy and understanding for others and given me the perspective to guide teammates who are finding their own path. Today, I feel confident that I’m in the right seat, contributing in ways that matter. The more I give to the team and to Chillibreeze, the more fulfilled I feel.

Culture and Potential Over Roles: The Chillibreeze Way

What I’ve realized is that Chillibreeze doesn’t hire for roles. We hire for culture and potential. This means being self-driven, adaptable, humble, and open to growth. It means understanding that each of us starts with different circumstances, limitations, and advantages, but we all have a choice: to give up or to create good, to be spectators or contributors. At Chillibreeze, we are encouraged to step into our contribution, to discover where we can make the most impact, and to grow through that process.


Challenges Are Not Roadblocks; They Are Guides to Finding Where You Truly Belong.

I still remember the first days after getting appointed. Nafissa our Senior Leader told me that I was one of the most challenged trainees in Chillibreeze. That stuck with me in a way I didn’t fully understand at the time. It wasn’t easy to hear, but looking back, that moment became a compass for my journey, a reminder that my path here wouldn’t be simple, but it could be meaningful if I stayed open and committed. My journey isn’t about having the perfect role from day one or finding a ready-made passion. It’s about being open to learning, embracing challenges, and committing to contributing where the need is greatest. That’s the essence of ‘Discover Your Contribution ’, a mindset that allows us to grow personally, create meaningful impact, and build a culture where everyone can thrive.
